I just bought a new SUV. Had a smaller sportier car, but it was time for an update.  All kids are grown and out of the house, no DH, so it's only me and the dogs ( doodle and Yorkie most often the only ones in the car).  I could have bought a a smaller car probably $6-7,000 cheaper, better gas milage, better looking but felt I just had to by an SUV for Tucker- you know- more comfort, safer, dog appropriate.  Did anyone else buy their doodle an SUV or similar situation?  Hope I'm not the only one!

Porter has his own rear-facing captain's chair.

VW Eurovan--bought when I was pregnant with #1 in 2001. They don't make 'em anymore otherwise I would recommend this car to everyone. You can get one used though.
It has a boxy van, not minivan interior, so you can move around in it. Yet it seats seven. Has same or better gas mileage than most SUVs and minivans: It's actually a tiny bit shorter and narrower than the Odyssey, but it is taller. It lacks perks like automatic door opening and side-impact airbags.

Porter is just riding HIGH there in his captain seat. Very cool.
Thanks. He does love his seat. And he doesn't pitch forward when I hit the breaks--yay.
Ummm....just had that discussion with DH. I want an SUV. Mainly for the two doggies. HEhehe - we are all nuts, aren't we?
We were just talking about buying a SUV for travel and to fit 2 large dogs . We're looking at a Mitsbishi Endeavor . We haven't bought anything yet .
I am actually a little embarassed to even admit this, but I did get my SUV for my doodle, under the guise of "travel", "it'll last me 10 years at least", "grand-kids", etc. I had a really cute Honda Accord for 10 years, son has it now so it's still going strong, but got the doodle and felt he needed more that a back seat! Besides I feel safer and I knew his nails would just tear up the leather back seat. I love that we can fold down the seats and he has a big platform to lay down on now. So yes we can add the price of a new SUV to the cost of a doodle at my house too.
I currently drive a Ford Escape which I now refer to as "the dog car" I would like to get a new dog car, and am considering a van. I like the idea that a van has a lower entry than the SUV.
So funny that this came up today. Yesterday my husband & I went to the Hyundai dealer to check out the new Tuscon (sp) and the bigger model one size up. I told him that with the two dogs we need an SUV...I have a Lexus 350 ES, and it is fine with one dog, but two is not good. The guys worked it out, one lays on the back seat and the other on the floor, and then they switch, but this is really not good, so I have another year on my lease, but it is an SUV in in my future. Funny my kids are all grown and out of the house too, who would have thought I needed an SUV now ...Oh DH drives a sports car, so they cannot sit in the back, there is no back, lol, but Oliver sits in his seatbelt and wears a hat and sunglassses and he goes for rides with Dad, They get oohs and ahhs, and people just think it is so cool, and of course the two of them just eat up all the attention...Hate to tell Hubby it is not him or his car, it is Oliver that they love, lol,,,,
No, not an SUV but . . . I did buy ANOTHER Toyota Sienna XLE with all the bells and whistles, and Sheila has her car seat up front in the passenger. And she weighs 9 lbs. As it should be, right?
Even with budget constraints we were still able to get our doodles an SUV :)

It squeaks and fits in Spud's mouth.
Good thing a sense of humor is free or you'd be in big trouble, funny lady.
