I used Bitter Apple for 3 Goldens and it worked for each one. Now, I have a LD and it didn't work at all. My husband put it on his finger and our Yogi went nuts. He just loved it. Spoke to the store that it was purchased from and they said some dogs do like it and they gave us a credit. Go figure. Did it work for you?
besides not working... even if it did, during his uncontrollable puppy phase I would have needed several gallons a day. Every sock, underwear, bra, shoe, tabletop, eyeglasses............well you get the point. The dogs outgrow the phase and for the most part keeping your eye glued to them at all times and consistent training is the only thing that works for many of us youthful dog owners.
I am sure you are going to be upset with me........but Allie never chewed anything that was not hers. No shoes, no furniture, no nothing.........now I need to go knock on some major wood.
Nope, didn't work for us - the only thing we have an issue with is Hunter takes the large, metal, ground drain out of our cement patio outside. Its recessed down about 2 inches - we have no clue how she gets it but she LOVES it. My husband tried Bitter Apple, didn't work, he used a silicon sealant to make it stick to the cement, she got it off. My husband tried Hot Sauce, it worked for about 2 days until it rained all the hot sauce washed away now she is back at it again. I think we have given up, we just look for it and put it back. I recently heard of a super hot clam boil sauce on a training forum that could work for preventing chewing on things like leashes and other absorbant things. I will look up the stuff. Rosco HATED bitter apple but he rarely chewed anything.
My mini doesn't like the bitter apple one bit, so that works for us, but I have to let you in on a secret that our Trainer told us about on Saturday. She said to mix lemon juice, vinegar and water, to make your own bitter spray. Much cheaper. I tried that since we were almost out of the bitter apple and it worked just as well! I used equal parts. Also, our groomer told me she uses the brown Listerene on her hands to keep the puppies from "chewing" or nipping on her hands while she is brushing them. They hate the taste. Hope this helps.
