Did we get Huff too early?

With all the new puppies here on dk i was just thinking about when we got Huff (8 weeks old) many people here got their doodle(s) at 9 weeks - 11 weeks.

We called his breeder and they said we could pick him up the next week when the pups turned 8 weeks.

We actually picked him up the day after he turned 8 weeks. I relize that some peoples doodles are fixed before they get them (Huff wasn't).

 

I could barely wait a week to get him I was so exited. I have no idea how any of you could wait up to 11 months to get a puppy that wasn't even born when you put down the deposite.

We got Luna at 7 weeks - she was done weaning and I'm guessing had plenty of bite inhibition training with her giant litter of ten pups!  As far as we could tell, she was the ringleader of her little pack when we picked her out (at 5 weeks) - showing her sisters and brothers how to dig big holes... she is still a little troublemaker!

We got Murphy at 8 weeks and Bella at 10 weeks. No problems with either with the exception of Bella's poop eating. Our breeder explained that her being with her mother those 2 extra weeks allowed her to learn that behavior from her mother, who does it for her pups as a protective instinct.  She also said that Bella is "protecting"  me like her mother did. I must say if I KNEW that would happen then I would've gotten her as early as I could and would forego the extra "protection". lol

Taylor, are you concerned about something? It seems Huff was a perfect age and well socialized. Just wondering what makes you think it was too early?

We got Summer at almost seven weeks and I believe for her that it was entirely to young. She nipped at us really bad for awhile and she is very timid around other dogs. Other than that she is very attached to us and once her baby teeth were out she quit chewing on us and only chewed her toys. Next Doodle will be at least 8 wks. old.

Most dogs are ready for new homes from around 8 weeks. I think this breeder liked to keep her puppies to 10 weeks as they may need to shipped long distances and an older dog can withstand longer time in travel. I was extremely fortunate and the breeder drove approx 10 hours to deliver mine and another dog close by.
