Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
hi, i have been advised this is the best way to get great feedback on my questions..
i am looking for a Mellow, highly intelligent, easy to work with doodle. That also must fit a size requirement as i travel frequently on planes, and would want the dog with me.
i have been in contact with a few breeders that claim they are producing MICRO doodles now
9-15 lbs. multigenerational 14'. Some breeders are saying they have worked for years to produce this dog. Am i naive to accept this as fact?
i am also possibly interested in a dog that i can train for therapy work, probably working with seniors at a care center. The dog needs to be 14' or less & between 9-15 lbs. I have 8 grandchildren ranging from 1 yr. to 11 yrs. old. The dog will be socialized well, but i prefer a non shedding dog..some kids have allergies as well as i have asthma.
Dogs generally don't affect me..Cats do!!
Big question is difference between labradoodle, goldendoodles & austrailian doodles for my preferences. Which would fit best for my needs?
Any helpful thoughts, suggestions or tips..very welcome and of course breeder recommendations
thanks in advance

Hi Rodney,
I'm glad you were able to find the main page discussion. You came to the right place for information. We also give opinions ~ LOL
The most important step before you go further is to read this important information. This is the Bible to buying a dog.
http://www.doodlekisses.com/notes/What_To_Look_for_In_a_Breeder
Others will chime in about their doodles. We have all sizes, breeds, shapes, colors, and certainly personalities and we all have a lot of pictures.
I do have one concern. You posted on your page the reason you wanted to have a doodle companion is because they are MELLOW! AHHH.
I suppose some are but typically these dogs fall into the medium to very active range. My doodle is four and I truly have a hard time keeping up many days. Have you really ever met a ' Mellow' Poodle?
Anyway, start with the link I gave you and others will be able to tell you about the differences.
P.S. I have NEVER heard of a Micro Doodle
I'm curious about the Micro. Are Labs and Goldens really meant to be shrunk? Like I said, I have no idea but it seems to be this is not the best of play with genetics when it comes to knees, hips, etc.
Others do have minis and maybe they can offer some advice and I can be enlightened too.
I certainly would insist that the breeder does the proper health screening of the dams and sires.
my mellow may be anothers Gentle or sweet..that is what i am referring to.
i also checked out the info you suggested on What to look for in a breeder. Honestly, being in florida & checking breeders out all over the country is a difficult task. That is why this website is so important & helpful. i am looking for recommendations. I have been impressed with 2 breeders ..Country mini doodles in Indiana & also coincidentally another one in Ind. American Labradoodle. The latter professing to have invested a 9 yr. period of perfecting a Micro version of this much admired dog.
since my needs are very specific size wise..this size is very attractive to me.i am hoping to find others that know of this breeder. i could get the dog registared as a therapy/service dog to fly, but i am not sure how long the airlines will allow this to exist as i understand there are many people who abuse the privilege
thanks for your help so far.
We are not permitted to respond to you in an open forum on the two names you mentioned, however we can respond on your page or send you private emails.
I did look at the second breeder you mentioned and I do not see anywhere on that website:
passing OFA or PennHIP hip scores on both parents. Then ask for proof of eye clearance either through CERF or PRA. CERF must be done annually and PRA is a genetic test that need only be done once for clearance. Von Willebrands disease is a bleeding disorder similar to hemophilia...poodles have it more often than retrievers, but it can be found in Goldens too...so ask for genetic clearance for this disease too.
It does mention they will help you set up franchises? Really. Like McDonalds?
I certainly want others to also look at this site as it is really late for me and I may have missed something. What scares me is that they seem to breed too many, I see no testing, the word franchise, allergy free, and some other flags.
Being in Florida, I would really want to see these place before I purchased a puppy.
Complete FRANCHISE setups available,
including tested stock,
pedigree program,
website construction,
and much, much more to insure
your success!!!
I can find no information for, Ethical Dog Breeders Association. Can anyone else? I found this emblem on one of the breeders pages.
I just can't wrap my head around the ' Franchise' Franchises of Puppies? Good Gawd!
So now I woke up and returned to this post after many hours and still~ can't stop thinking about the word Franchise.
So, how does this work? Do you put your order in at the microphone, pick off of the menu: size, color, sex, and then just pull around in the drive-thru to pick your pup up at the window?
Please Please Please let us help you here. This is so not good in so many ways.
It is under Services. They also offer "rescued doodles for shipping" big ginormous red flag, no responsible rescue ships dogs in this manner.
"Breeding
American Labradoodles.........................
We get inquirys ALL the time
regarding breeding our companions as a business. If you feel you want
to pursue this as your vocation for the Service Assistant field, please
let me know.
We offer both a franchising opportunity as well as tested
breeding pairs to start you on the right path"
It really sounds to me like this is either a very large commercial breeder with the dogs off-site, or a broker.
The stuff about service assistants is also a whole lot of hokum.
They also offer financing, I have never heard of such a thing, if you have to finance a dog you sure as heck can't afford to own one.
