Ollie is now about 17 weeks. He has always loved water and will get in the shower with my kids and just stand there . He also tries regularly to "swim" in his water bowl and makes a big mess. Anytime is rains - he finds places to dig and ends up filthy dirty- I feel like we bathe him almost every day. The only way to avoid it is to go out with him which doesnt always work because we have three young children and sometimes - I just need to let him out in the yard to focus on the kids without worrying about Ollie getting into something (he loves to eat paper and anything he else he can get his little teeth on!). I am guessing we just need to deal with out dirty diggity dog but thought I would see if anyone has any helpful suggestions. Thanks! Stacey
Well at least he will probably end up an enthusiastic swimmer! I cant keep up with the dirt either (they run and roll in it.) I have just resorted to letting them dry off in the family room then, brushing them, and vacuuming. At this point I cant wait for the snow.At least they will stay clean.
Bella loves to play in her water bowl too. She rubs her face in the water and splashes it everywhere. Our kitchen always has puddles. Bella is always dirty and I don't know what to do about it either. Snow will only make it worse, the grass doesn't grow then and there is mud everywhere. I bathe her all the time.
Well, you have hit a nerve with me!! My small labradoodle tiptoes around dirt and comes in to the house clean, but the bigger one just loves to run around in the mud--UGH! Not only is she always dirty, but she takes a loooong time to dry, so she actually smells mildewy! I have washed her almost every day in our stream to get the mud off, but can't get her to dry out afterwards. I leave a fan on in the room at night to help her dry out. We have had such a wet summer, with 20 inches of rain in June and July alone. My back yard has been a mud bath since March and I have really gotten tired of cleaning up mud! Lyric is getting groomed tomorrow and I am going to get her hair cut fairly short just to save me some aggravation! Sorry--just had to vent!
No suggestions here... I try to let mine out one at a time if I want them to not resemble a dirt ball when I next see them!! Sometimes it works and sometimes not! I have also bought 3 rounds of mulch trying to cover the dirt so they just roll in the mulch instead but then they dig. The JOYs of puppyhood!! lol... We have a little baby pool in back that they jump into full or empty. They love when it rains and the pool fills up about an inch.... so they can roll in it and then go dig in the dirt.
We also have a 3 and 5 yo children. I use to put them in their cage with a treat when we needed time but they are now potty trained and have free run of the house. Oh, we all showered tonight and got our weekly shampooing. I just rinse them during the week.
It's funny how similar doodles can be!!
It's really easier to get the dirt out if you just brush them dry without bathing them. Try it, you'll be surprised at how well it works...and if not, you can always go ahead and bathe him.
Lexi is pure white, we use " Liiquid Sliker mat eliminator and detangler every time we bath her and if she gets dirty, let her dry and the dirt will fall off her. It is also fantastic eliminating matting and makes combing and brushing a breeze ! http://www.kimlaubecoshop.com/liquidslickerspecialty501freeshipping...
Just a light mist sprayed before drying, the product will last forever...........it will change your Doodle life!
I have a wet puppy all the time. Finn goes in the pool every time I let him out. Trying to towel him is a tug of war to him and then comes the wrestling match. He tries to head for the garden but I'm getting better at catching him.
