Robyn, do you have a picture of the zip line system you are talking about?  I can't picture it.

I don't have a pic. Next time we go for "car ride" I will take one. The way it works is that the zip line hooks over the two backseat ceiling hooks (like where you would hang your dry cleaning) then the harness hooks to the zip line with a strap. The length between the harness and zip line can be adjusted. I dont know if
It would work well with a small dog. Snicks is 50lbs.

Okay, I'm getting a better picture now.  Thanks!
What a sad story. I am glad to find this subject because I was going to hold our new puppy in a small bed with a blanket when we bring her home. We live about 90 minutes from breeder.

We have the champion harness for one and the petsmart tether for the other at this point.  I do remember a similar discussion about this a while back and remember one person's comments regarding using the crate option.  If you keep the dog in the crate in the back of your vehicle and you are rear-ended, how will you be able to get your dog out quickly if necessary?  Just something to think about as you weigh your options.

We use a seatbelt. It's an American Tourister harness, we got it from Petsmart.

We use one that is similar to Darwin's above.

I know this is an old discussion, but it is a good one to bring up periodically.  Everyone should restrain their dogs to keep them safe in the car.  I used to ride with T. on my lap but thought about the airbag going off. It would kill him instantly.  He and Peri both sit in the back now, buckled in.  I am going to have to buy a 3-seater once I decide to have human children.  LOL!

Yes, I just noticed how old this discussion was. But you are right, it's a good reminder.

I recently bought this one after reading the reviews.
