Della has thrown up 2 socks this week...I cannot even imagine where she is finding them and I am really worried. She just turned 7 mo. old and I am so worried about something happening to her.
I'm so relieved that we are not the only ones with this dilemma. As I’m writing I'm keeping a very close eye on our 6 month old as tree says ago now my husband witnessed him eating one of our son's socks. He said that he just gobbled it up in 10 sec flat! This would be his third such episode....he threw up two socks and a dish cloth in the past month. I hope this behavior will pass because with three boys under ten and plenty of socks around the future looks pretty dangerous.
Mine actually chooses to destroy underwear. I find my underwear under everything! It drives me crazy because he is 7 months too, so it's not like there's just a little hole on them...they are totally destroyed. Ask your vet about it since your dog is actually eating them because it could cause some intestinal problems. Just to make you feel better though-- My family pet was a shih tzu and when he was a puppy we were visiting family that had a three year old. Well, he got one of her socks and ate it. My mom was freaking out that he was going to be hurt, but the vet said as long as he's breathing ok, just let it pass. A few days later...out it came..whole sock. Pretty gross, but these things happen. I'm sure you're dood will be ok. :-)
Hopefully you can find a way to get her to stop this. Dexter has had to have 2 surgeries to remove objects from his stomach!! He has eaten socks before, but always threw them up. He ate the plastic drain cover in our tub and fragments of a tennis ball (2 different incidents) and they didn't come up.
With age, he is getting better. We have always worked a ton on the "drop it" command and finally in the past 6 months he is obeying it (he just turned 3). We finally got through to him with this command with the help of an air can (one of those cans you use to clean the dust out of your keyboard). Our doodles both hate the sound of it spraying and we've used it to teach "drop it" and "hush/quiet".
We also rarely leave things around the house...we are able to relax that a bit now that he seems to be past most of the naughtiness (knock on wood). Thank goodness Kirby is behaved!! Good luck.

Update on Chevy...this morning two socks came back out. It took him three days. Funny because he was eating his meals and pooping etc. and only those socks came back, nothing else.
Thank you to everyone for their responses....knock on wood...we have had no more incidents. Della is acting fine and pooping regularly. I have searched the house high and low and made sure that there were no clothing items stuck behind things. Now I just have to train my husband to put his dirty socks in the hamper with the lid on it. I think that will be more of a challenge than training Della.
