Hi! We have Kubi, a 4 month old loving goldendoodle but who is still a puppy! When did people get a dog bed for their dog and any specific recommendations?

Also we live in Lakewood Ranch, FL near Sarasota and Bradenton. If anyone lives near here and wants to meet up, Kubi and I would love to have a play date!

Kubi is a cutie!  We had a dog bed from day one.  Neither Charlie or Beau liked the crate - just too hot.  So when they were puppies, I put a bed inside a gated area.  We have two bed now, but they both prefer the king-size one we sleep in! LOL

Dog bed? What dog bed?! My dogs prefer the king size human version!
While Oliver was potty training he had a Harry Barker hemp bed with a waterproof mattress protector--easy to clean and durable. When his growth slowed at 8 months and we got him a microvelvet Bowser Bed (Dutchie style). They are so soft, durable, washable, and come in tons of patterns to match your house. We've had the Bowser Bed for almost two years and it still looks great--I highly recommend them and Harry Barker!

Hi!

Before I even got my Molly, I had ordered her bed.  I have found that this bed is pretty indestructible (the shell) and very easy to keep clean.  With this bed, you have the option to purchase different types of padding and covers for the shell.  After Molly chewed up a couple of the padded inserts, I resorted to using an old comforter that I folded into the shell.  She has yet to destroy that and I just throw it in the washing machine to clean it.

We had dog beds from day one, too. I have gotten some great ones from TJ Maxx and Home Goods.

I got Sawyer one once he transitioned out of the crate and was sleeping with us in our bedroom. He doesn't always use it, mostly it's where he stashes his toys and bully sticks. I'm not sure what "kind" I bought, I just know I wanted and got one that the cover zipped off so I could wash it easily when needed!
Just make sure you really like it, it's durable, and you can wash it! I bought couple of beds for Cocoa when she was a puppy, and she stills rests on them all the time. We have hardwood floors so the beds are in the spots around the family room and living room where she hangs out with us.

The bad news for us is that they don't look so good now (one looked ratty after a few washes and the other got lumpy after a few washes... and she will sleep on no other. I have tried to replace them with newer, more attractive beds, but she refuses to sleep on anything but the original 5 year old beds. The new beds are now giant floor pillows for my kids :)
I never got a bed for Yogi because he sleeps in our bed, and on a big fluffy throw that is his during the day. I started wanting one for him at about nine months old, but decided to wait until Maci was here. We ended up getting an xlarge size "soggy doggy" bed from our local boutique dog store. They lay on it together during the day when resting or chewing bones. I'd say they love it. Very happy with it! Yogi still sleeps in our bed at night, while Maci is in the crate. But they definitely make full use of it during the day.

We bought Finnley a nice new bed when we brought her home. It was more like and option I suppose.  We are not crate people, and that has worked for us. She either slept on her bed, knowing it was hers, or she slept with me and my husband. No problems for us either way. I guess it depends how you train Kubi. What works for one family, might not be workable in another. Like Laurie said, there are some great beds at TJ Maxx, and Home Goods, and I might add Tractor Supply !

We have so many dog beds in our house! Their favorite bed, other than ours of course, are the Kuranda beds. They love the elevated beds, which keep them cool and slightly off the floor. We had crate pads that we lay on top of them for extra padding. We also have a few orthopedic beds that they love.

We buy beds from Sierra Trading Post when they are on sale.  They are large sized and the canvas cannot be chewed up.  These are our outside beds and we have them on the deck and laundry room.  Inside the house we have mats made from memory foam and covered with our old bedspread material.  The dogs like them also and we just lay them up against the wall during the day.  Harpo walks into the bedroom at night and pulls down his mat when he is ready for bed.

I'm confused. All these responses sound great, and I am looking forward to the doggie bed purchase as well -- but isn't the question about when it is appropriate to expect a puppy to not be destructive/housetrained without confining overnight? I am curious. I suppose it depends, but maybe there is an age appropriate range? Thx...
