this information is inaccurate~ the ACK is currently not even considering the Australian Labradoodle as a pure breed, the associates were suppose to be working toward this but as far as I am aware (and I am highly active in the community) they are no where near eligible.
What is this book called? I can't think of a SINGLE ALD breeder that has any interest in joining the AKC -- and if she/he did want that...it is still many decades away from a reality.
I am watching it as well....Jordan is a Lab body with Poodle legs, and face and long hair! Jordan is an F-1. I would be shocked if the AKC ever allows ALD's.There is a lot of dislike of Doodles of any kind in the AKC Lab and Poodle communities.
Remember that AKC doesn't just "recognize" a breed. SOMEONE or some organization has to actually want AKC recognition enough to work toward a specific breed standard over an enormous amount of years (see Karen's post below). There isn't a single breeder of multigen labradoodles that I can think of that WANTS to turn the labradoodle into an AKC breed. There are definitely downsides to it. I'm not sure about the Goldendoodle Assoc. of N. American and their goals for GD's....but I doubt they are working toward AKC breed recognition.
Plus ya gotta remember, most doodle owners have early generation doodles--these can not, by definition, ever be considered a true 'breed' that breeds true and thus such doods would never be an AKC breed.
I think one of the favorite things about doodles is the variation...once a dog becomes a breed...that variation is lost in the 'true' breed. Yes there are short and long hair dachshunds, for example, and diff coat colors...but they still tend to look a lot alike.
