Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We just brought home our goldendoodle and he’s our first indoor dog but whoops did I not think about that dog smell he doesn’t shed or at least we haven’t found any dog hairs on us we have all time except our bedroom but he spends most time on the living rooms or outside. But how do you guys keep your house fresh and your dog?

Maybe my sense of smell is shot, but I don't notice that my girls smell particularly doggy. They get regular baths and grooming though. I do have problems with them tracking in every leaf in the entire world. I don't have a solution for that beyond a lot of vacuuming though.
I have the tracking in problem too. But it is extremely rare to have a doggie smell at all.
I love their hair long, but everything gets stuck in it. It's a trade off. I think there might be a magic property that magnetizes everything to them until they walk inside. As soon as they come in the door it releases all over the floor.
Interesting--I have three doodles and they are not really smelly--maybe you are just not used to having a dog in the house? If it is an adult, it might be the anal glands--you can have them checked at the vet--sometimes they need to be cleaned out and that can make the dog smelly.
Wait--this is the puppy you just posted about a few days ago? I would suggest washing him in baby shampoo that is diluted with water. Maybe the breeder did not bathe him before you picked him up and since they are not housebroken yet, young pups are smelly!
Yes he’s home! And I don’t think he was bathed either really I can bathe him in dilutes baby shampoo?
yes, for sure--make sure he is rinsed thoroughly and make the water lukewarm, not hot--and then keep him warm while he dries--wrap him in a towel and hold him a while--if it is chilly where you live, then put him in a warm place until he is thoroughly dry. I always wash the pups I raise the day before they go home--they are smelly otherwise.
Picco lasts for about 2 weeks before he gets campy. It doesn't seem to matter whether he spends more time in or outdoors. I don't notice the smell lingering in the house, just the dog. Or....am I use to it? :-)
Turbo gets a bath every 4 to 5 weeks in the summer but winter is longer between baths. I don't notice a smell in the house but only in my bedroom cause he sleeps in my room and it is small and since I have to keep the door shut all day and all night cause I have to run a space heater in there it can get doggy. Turbo gets bad breath from his salmon and pea grain free dog food. I do notice his feet do stink from going from wet to dry in and out of the house. But that is the joy of having such a great furry friend. I also keep Turbo cut short cause he is so tight curly. More poodle genes than retriever in him.His coat only stays shiny for about a week after he is bathed. Turbo is now 2 yrs old and 95 pounds. Bigger than I thought he would be. LOL
