I found the Doggie Dooley waste cleanup system in the new Doctor's Foster & Smith magazine, and was curious about it. It is a pet waste desposal system that works similar to a septic tank. It gets buried in the ground and has a hatch on it to put the waste into. There are a couple models of the unit(see pictures)

I was thinking if this worked it would be SO much better looking than the bucket and shovel I have hidden under a bush near my front door.

Does anyone have one? What do you think of it? Recommendations?

I have seen these in people's lawns in my neighborhood, and I am also curious about them. Does the waste material go out the bottom of the container into the soil? That would be very eco-friendly. If you have to somehow clean them out, though....yuck.
We made our own. We cut the bottom out of a paint bucket with a lid and put it in a hole in the ground, so yes it decomposes with stuff you buy at the pet store to sprinkle on. Works great for us.
I think it works like a chemical toilet Karen and you still need to clean it but I am not sure about it. I have seen it as well but I don't know anyone who is actually using it. I would be curious too.
LOVED IT - LOVED IT - LOVED IT!!!!!!! That is until the cover broke. I installed it into my rock bed shortly after building the house before we put in our landscaping. But now there are shrubs near it and it would be very hard to dig it out and re-install it. But I would consider putting another one in. You do not have to clean it. You have to add chemicals to it, enzymes to work it into a liquid formula, then it seeps into the ground and you end up with very lush vegitation surrounding it. I may put one in my flower bed. Only downfall, if you don't keep up with chemicals, it will smell.
I know some people will think this is gross, but I used to shovel my last dog's poop into the soil in my flower beds. (She was a small dog with very small poops, lol.) It does work like fertilizer, manure is manure! And it's much more eco-friendly than preserving it in a plastic bag in a landfill for all eternity.
Oh, by the way, because my cover broke - I would go with the metal one.
Yes, I was thinking the metal one just for that reason.
we had one, for our Newfies. It filled up faster than the enzyme could eat the waste. However, for one dog, it woul work wonderfully.

It works just like a septic tank.
Same comment about size Ours could not keep up with two large dogs at all. It sounds like one small dog should be okay.
Check out this old thread: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/2065244:Topic:96010?id=206... -- Clark keeps meaning to make one...
Works fine for a while but doesn't last - especially if you have two or more dogs. It cannot decompose the poop fast enough. The chemicals did kill the plants around it - and we thought we hid it so well!!!
