Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We have a 10 week old minature Goldendoole.  The breeder thinks he will be about 25 to 30 pounds full grown.  We are installing a doggy door and wanted to see if anyone had recommendations for doors that are energy efficient, stay clean, and easy for their dog to use.  Thanks in advance!

We have this door:

Ideal Pet
10.25 in. x 15.75 in. Extra Large Premium Draft Stopper Aluminum Frame Door with Flexible Hard Flap
Model # PDSXL

Here's a link to the supplier's site, but it's available at places like Home Depot: http://www.idealpetproducts.com/product/detail/ultra

We like it because, unlike some doors with a single softer plastic flap, this one doesn't curl and stays closed.  It took a couple of tries before Sedona got the idea, but she soon became a champ!

We have 'large' and our daughter's 80 pound lab has no problem with it and neither does her 15 pound Lhasa/poodle mix.  Ned is 28 pounds and could easily use a smaller sized door though.

Here is a link to the dog door we have.

I cannot embed a picture since I am on an iPad (or maybe I don't know how)

I got the extra Large.... Shelby is a 40 lb. ALD, but I also wanted the door to be big enough for her doggie friends... Most of whom are a bit larger than her. I like the double flap.... And the ability to slide a panel on either side to block use of the door. It's been installed for over two years now and I've been very happy with it.

I picked it up locally at Home Depot, but there are many online sites where you could order it as well.
If you have questions... Let me know!
