I just saw a segment on TV tonight about the thousands of dogs that are being abandoned in the Everglades. Abandoning an animal is unacceptable under any circumstance, but this is extreme cruelty considering the climate and wildlife in the Everglades. They are subjected to a sure death. I guess I shouldn't be shocked at how cruel people can be to their animals, but I couldn't believe that so many people would make the long drive to the Everglades and dump their dog off with the alligators and snakes. The thought is just sickening. The story I watched tonight was about a rescuer who was a former manicurist. She went down there once with a friend and was sickened by the amount of abandoned dogs she saw. She gave up her job and now is devoted to rescuing the dogs of the Everglades.

I have thought about this every day since I first heard about it. I was just in shock that this was happening. To see those dogs running to the rescuers to be saved just broke my heart and I can't get the image of that poor emaciated American Bull Dog wandering along the road. The website for the girl who gave up her job to do this has a website called 100+ Dogs of the Everglades. There is a tab with ideas on how you can help

Its very sad to watch animals suffer and to think that their human companions dumped them and did not care at all for them.  Praying for all the abandoned animals lost out there.

Sounds odd that individuals are doing this, but I wouldnt bet against Puppy mill owners oing it
It's completely beyond comprehension
Maybe the state police could be on the look out for these people if they were alerted

I also thought many might be puppy mill dogs. Especially considering that the video and pictures show some breeds such as German Shepherds, Rottweilers, and American Bull Dogs. From the stories on the websites, others seem to have had real homes before since they run to greet the rescuers and there was a story about a Lab who got really excited every time  he saw a pick up truck- thinking it was his family, only to stop wagging his tail when it drove off.  I think the area is remote, so there is little help from law enforcement or animal control. Puppy Mill dogs or family dogs..... it is still sick any way you look at it.
