Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We have a friend that needed to re-home thier dog. They say they got Sophie from a friend that thought she was too roudy for her small children. They say she is a Labradoodle, don't know who the breeder was, but said they paid quite a bit for here. She has a chip but it is not activated. I found the seller of the chip and tied to find who the breeder was. The woman at the store in Iowa that sold the chip to the breeder said that she was not able to give out the breeders name. She then called the breeder and the breeder would not even talk to me..

So I would like to know what kind of doodle you all think she is. She is the sweetest dog we have ever had. Just an angel. She is 1.5 years old and has been cared for by the vet, and is up to date on all medical stuff.

So what do you think Labradoodle or poodle? What ever she is we think she is the BEST...

Thanks for all the answers... Yes we are her fourth and last home. Some people just do not think before the get a pet. The poor little girl was in a crate 14 hours a day at the last home. The daughter that was responsible for taking care of her left for college in september and the mon did not want the responsibility as she had young children. So it was just a case of people not thinking ahead of the responsibilty.

It sure seems odd to me to be her fourth home as i said she is the absoutley sweetest dog we have ever met...

We have had her groomed 3 times already and feel we want to be able to do it ourselves. I gave her her first bath yesterday and she was no trouble at all, we also brush her out with the conditioning spray every couple of days. We would like to let her coat get long as she was so beautiful with the long stuff when we got her, just that the matting was beyond repair.

What do you all think of the breeder not wanting to talk to me, I found that a bit odd, I could have possibly wanted another one as we like sophie so much. Maybe just a backyard operation with no concern with their pups wellbeing. Sad...

When someone buys a puppy from a petstore or a broker, (and many on-line websites are puppy brokers), they are told that the dog comes from a breeder. But they come from puppy mills. This is a hard fact for many people to accept, they like to think it was a BYB, but 99% of dogs in pet stores & from brokers come from the mills. My doodle Jack came from a puppy mill. How do I know this? Because his original owners bought him from a pet store. (This doesn't mean he isn't the sweetest, most wonderful dog in the world, or the most loved, now. It is just a fact.)
Most breeders, and certainly the ethical ones, have a clause in their purchase contract that says that if at any time the person cannot keep the dog, it is to be returned to the breeder. Dogs adopted from responsible rescues and shelters have the same clause. (They will not get their $ back, of course, which makes some people turn to private ads, Craig's list, etc., instead.) So when a dog has been passed from person to person, it is fairly safe to say she is from a mill, and you can save yourself a lot of time & work trying to find out. Just love her.
If you really want to know - they sell breed tests that only require a cheek swab. The price varies and I'm not sure how reliable they are. Maybe someone else with experience can chime in.

I was at the Pet Expo in Cincinnati this past weekend and a breed testing company had a booth there. My sister picked up a brochure. I don't know the details, but I know it was $68.00 to get it done. If you are interested I can get the info from my sister when she gets back from spring break.

My Sophie looks similar to your Sophie when she is cut short. I am told my Sophie is 5/8 poodle and 3/8 Golden Retriever- The two above pics are Sophie fresh out of the groomer after being cut really short d/t matting. She is also a rescued girl, and hanging out at the Humane Society before the rescue group got her, really did a number on her coat. You could also post a couple pics of your girl w/ a long coat!
Looks like Sophie has a twin...I wish we had taken a pic of her before the cut, but i took her the a groomer as soon as we got her not knowing they would have to shave her. I am not so curious as to do the test thing, just more concerned where she came from... She kooked like a sheep, I hope we can maintain the brushing so we can have that look again.
