Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I know there have been many discussions on this
particular topic, but I just wanted to share my recent story.  I had my
first ever conversation with a doodle-disliker today.

I ran to Walmart today -- I know, I don't like it much either, but I'm a student on a budget :) -- to get some things and, like always, had to visit the pet section to check out some toys for Albus.  I got him three squeaky toys.  As I was getting my stuff checked out by the cashier, she noticed I had the dog toys and asked what kind of dog I had.  I told her I had a goldendoodle, and her disgusted response was, "It's a shame to spend a lot of money on a mixed breed dog like that."

Umm....excuse me?  I was flabbergasted.  Just the way she said it was snotty.  It was like she was trying to make me feel guilty, but I certainly don't remember asking for her opinion about my choice of dog.  I had to bite my tongue really hard so I wouldn't let the F-bomb fly or really let her have it.  I simply replied, "He's worth every penny I paid for him, and I wouldn't trade him for anything."  It was hard to hold back, but I really didn't feel like getting into a debate with the ignorant woman.  Clearly she's just uninformed and biased.  I wish I could have thought of something "mouthier" to say, but I really was at a loss for words.

What would you have said in this situation?  Would you have handled it differently than I did?  I'd like to know for next time, so I can have more things to say :)

This makes me laugh because that person has been misinformed and is pretty ignorant.
I agree that it is pointless to try and reason with someone like this. The thing that makes me angry is that because she is a vet tech, people look to her as a source of reliable information. I wonder how many people she has said this crap to. Hopefully people look further than her "advice"
Camilla, I am so sorry this happened. What an idiot.
What are her qualifications as a "vet tech", if any?
I am not sure, I just know that she worked as a vet tech at a veterinary office.
She met the mini mun requirements to pass her exams!
Apparently she got all the dumb a$$ traits from her parents so she should know!!
You my dear are a bigger and better person than that no nothing at Walmart. You should be proud of yourself. Oh if only we had the quick responses that time allows you to have later....I liked your response because you said exactly what you felt and you did it with dignity which clearly that person has none of. I would have said something off color and then regretted it later for letting her bring me down to her level.

I am on a budget too and frequent Walmart more then I want to admit. Ok this is mean,  and perhaps not politically correct,  but I would of been thinking  that there is a reason she works at Walmart. Idiot!  Know I don't want to affend anyone who works there I have friends that do and I have when I was in HS. Unfortunately, I sometimes speak out of anger first then think. Not one of my greatest qualities but I am honest about my feelings.!!
Ugh... doodle negativity makes me wanna.. get another doodle! :) Well, most things make me want another these days.... ;)
I would have replied in the same manner, but I like Karen's suggestion.

Last weekend, I had several people come up to Murphy (as a group) and ask what he was. I replied "Goldendoodle".
One lady said "Oh he is one of those EXPENSIVE Designer dogs."

I replied, "Some may be, but that is NOT why I got him."

Have any of you run into something like that?
I've had lots of people ask point blank "was he expensive" "how much did you pay for him?" or "did you have to get a loan to buy him?" ???????????? I thought that it was rude to ask people how much they paid for things.
Yes, you're right, it is rude. But there are plenty of rude people about these days.
