So in light of some of the recent discussions on DK about out of control puppies and people having a difficult time with their doodles, I wanted to tell you all a funny story from last night.

Peri's breeder is on Facebook and we keep in touch constantly on there (she also lives in my area).  Last night she posted a status of "the puppies have discovered our toilet paper"...and follow up posts entitled "when doodle puppies go insane" had photos of them rolling it around the living room, photos of them playing with those crazy doodle mouths/teeth showing, her putting her drapes over furniture so they couldn't bite them, etc...  It literally looked like a complete mad house.  If I had her permission, I would post some here, but I am sure ALL of you can probably relate to this, right??  It was really hilarious!

The reason for my post is to serve as yet another reminder that this is pretty normal doodle behavior - and if you never experienced it, you have a very rare, relaxed doodle!  Last night I posted a response to the breeder about me remembering these days and sitting on the floor crying with Peri!  Peri's breeder commented that "at least you only had one!".  LOL!

So, to all you new puppy owners:  Hang in there, this is normal and yes, it gets better with training, age and patience.

And all of us veterans:  Remember those days????  I don't particularly miss them, but Peri sure was a cutey back then....

You should never have taught her how to read!

In Yiddish, it's called Kenahora- the "evil eye". You gave yourself a kenahora, Allyson!

Ned was an easy puppy or at least he seemed so compared to our Springer who ate (literally) couches and chairs (note the plural) cushion by cushion as well as chewing the molding off the walls and more stuff I have blocked from my brain.  Our bad in not figuring out how to successfully crate him.  He has anxiety and only did this stuff when left without humans,  BTW this was done in a closed area.......  So any of the stuff Ned did/does is nothing.   Ned's funniest puppy prank was unzipping decorative pillows and de-stuffing them.  I put the stuffing back, he would leave them alone until I let my guard down,  and then he de-stuffed again.....  :-}

I remember when I was ten years old, getting our childhood puppy a few day before Christmas.  On Christmas Eve wee put Shadow in the laundry room and our family went to church service and friends afterwards.  When we got home there was Shadow, greeting us at the front door.  She had chewed all the newspaper laid down for potty in the laundry room, chewed right through the freezer cord (which we did not discover till days later when Mom went into the now defrosted freezer) and chewed a hole right through the door which she then exited and went upstairs.  She then knocked down a bookcase, chewed a whole bunch of paperback novels, somehow got my pink foam hair curlers (remember them?) and chewed them all up and had just started on the wrapping paper on some presents under the tree!!!  We just stood in the door, horrified at the destruction!  I don't know what happened to Shadow that night, we were sent to bed but I know I was surprised that Shadow was still with us on Christmas morning!!!!  She was the bestest dog after that and lived to the ripe old age of 15 years!

That is impressive destruction.

Wow!!!!!

wowee--that is one scary puppy story!!

Sounds a lot like my house... and it's just 1 doodle puppy. :-) He loves to grab the end of the TP roll and take off running to see how far he can go with it. My drapes are also tied up.  Cords are all neatly tucked in whatever I can find to tuck them into. Nearly every Barbie doll my daughter has is covered in tiny little teeth marks. Our doodle also loves My Little Pony's, Legos, stuffed animals, crayons and did I mention I found him chewing on a pair of scissors one day? Oy Vey!

I take up collections of all the things I pull out of his mouth. By the end of the week I could easily fill a good size laundry basket with it all.

Hope you have insurance in the bottom of your laundry basket!! My girls would have flipped out if anyone touched their MLP!!!

Thanks, Allyson, for posting. I'm sooo exhausted and it's only Auggie's second day home. And he was one of the 2 mellow puppies, LOL. Mellow my eye.  I can't imagine what the non-mellow siblings are doing. I must have already forgotten how Monty was. All I remember that he was a good puppy and that he learned to ring the bells to go outside very fast. Auggie has not figured it out just yet. But he loves his crate, which Monty never did. It's kind of funny, but when you have an adult well behaved dog, you totally forget all the craziness they put you through when they were little. In my mind, Monty was an angel puppy while Auggie is a cute little devil, but I know it's not true. All puppies are very much alike and behave very much the same when you bring them home at 8 weeks. I know I keep comparing Auggie to Monty, which is not fair. But I AM SO EXHAUSTED!!!!!! Anyone want to adopt Auggie?.......Just kidding.

Post some pictures of Auggie with Monty, if you can get him to stay still. I read posts like yours and I wonder how sane a 69 year old woman can be begging to experience those days all over again. Memory with puppies is like childbirth, you fast forget or you would never have another. Have fun with that little guy. Monty will show him the ropes.

Sue, I've posted two videos, they should be visible on the main DK page.
