Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our Stanley is still only 10 pounds at 3 months. His dad was 60 pounds, and his mom was 40.  I know about the general rule of doubling the weight at 4 months, give or take 10 pounds. But, I'm curious about your personal experiences.

Does he have any hope of being as big as his dad? When does the 3-4 month growth spurt hit (my research suggests he is supposed to grow quite a bit this coming month).

Thanks for your thoughts ;)

My pup is a F2 mini/medium goldendoodle and his parents were between 30-40 lbs.  He was 6.5 lbs at 8 weeks, around 10 lbs at 3 months and he is now 11 months and 26-27 lbs.  His biggest growth spurt was between 3-5 months (although not as much as standard doodles).

He is tall and fluffy and looks almost the same size as my friend's lab mix that is 50 lbs.

My lug was 35 pounds at 4 mos.

Just throwing this into the discussion--if he is an F2B, than there is a back cross to a poodle--given the mom's size, that was most likely a mini-poodle since golden retrievers or labs are much bigger than 40 pounds--it is possible that Stanley got more of the mini-poodle genes for size than the other retriever genes and he could end up about his mom's size or even smaller--not too likely, but there is no guarantee that the litter will be an average of the two parents--and end up at around 50 pounds. The sizes vary depending on which genes they got from their background. And the size at 8 -10 weeks tells you very little --they need more time to show how big they will be--so now that Stanley is over 3 months, you will begin to see a growth spurt for a much bigger dog or slow growth and he will be on the small side.

One litter I raised had two smaller pups and we expected them to end up around the same size--30 pounds--Mom was 50 pounds and the dad was 35 pounds...one of those pups is now 48 pounds and the other is 28 pounds! Go figure!
