Doodles in the news!
This is my second discussion started today, but I couldn't resist when I saw this article in the Star Ledger newspaper. As an English teacher and a future reading specialist when I complete my masters degree next year, I find this so exciting!! Kids are willing to read aloud when no one will judge them and their reading ability....and we all know that dogs, especially our beautiful doodles, are the most loving, nonjudgmental creatures out there! =) Hope you all share my excitement on this dood in the news!

That is awesome! One of my goals for Rua is to be a therapy dog. This type of thing would certainly be a worthwhile adventure for us. I am sure when the time comes, I can find a program to get involved in. When I lived in Duluth a number of years ago, I volunteered through the Kiwanis group I belonged to for a program that involved going into the classrooms of 2nd graders and worked on self-esteem! We also read to them and let them pick out a book. Thanks for sharing!

This is very cool. There are some members on dk who do this with their doodles. Last year Ned and Clancy were penpals with the doodle who read with kids. The kids could then read the letters.

That is so sweet!
I sometimes think of Porter as my family's therapy dog. Not only does he calm me down when I am stressed, my kids have three totally different personalities and sometimes loving him and laughing at him is the only thing they can agree on!
