Does anyone's Doodles eat grass at any opportunity? Both of mine do. They are both on raw food diets with lots and lots of vege (including lots of green leafy vege).

Gunner loves to eat grass. Doesn't do it for any reason, or because he is trying to be sick (as some say they do). He has done it since the first day we got him & for some reason enjoys it. Its small amounts but he does it daily. The vet said it was normal for some dogs. He never gets sick afterward, but I am hoping he grows out of it. He eats bark & dirt as well. He is a little over 10 months old.
Hannah use to, on a weekly basis it seemed like everyday...than started going to 3 to 4 xs a week....since giving her more veggies it has helped. Now she just does it when her stomach is upset.
Phoebe does it at every opportunity--she also tries to snag the thorn bushes on the way into the house. It seems weeds have become an obsession as well--sometimes she vomits but most times she does not. I ceertainly hope that she outgorws this--she is almost 6.5 months old.
We laid down a sod lawn just before we got Gus and Molly, and Gus was obsessed from day one with digging up and eating the sod that dries up. He eats the roots, dirt and all. Molly seems to be smarter about it (girls, gotta love 'em). He doesn't do it quite as often now, but I continue to give him pumpkin everyday because it sometimes gives him diarrhea. He never touches the green grass, only the dead stuff!
Reminds me of "Marley & Me" and the backyard mangos :-) We listened to the audio book while traveling - book was much better then the movie.
Abby was eating it when she was sick with that abscess in her neck. But that is about it. All my other dogs ate grass periodically. I think they do it when they arent feeling well or they sense something is lacking.
Funny you should ask, just today Murphy went right out to the grass and started chomping away and no more than 10 min. later got sick....not sure why. Has grazed in the grass before with no ill effect, but this was deliberate and much more than he usually will eat. So yes, he eats grass, but when he needed to get sick, it was very different. My daughters doodle will do the same when he vomits.
Mine prefer weeds (maybe since they stand taller than our lawn), but they do eat grass on occasion.
Lucy loves grass. Old wives tale was that they had an upset stomach, but do not know how true that is. She eats it freq. though and never seems to vomit or anything like that, just a lot of burping. She burps just like a human.
Yankee eats grass and always has. Finn is eating weeds.
Mine both eat grass especially the 6 month old when she's hungry, which is almost always. they don't vomit from it.
Leigh I dont mean to be a naysayer, but I refute that science. (lol) The reason I am arguing it is that my personal observation with my dogs was to eat the grass only when they are ill to begin with. If it was just instinct why would they not eat it any old time? The last times I observed my dogs eating grass was Abby ,when she had the infection in her neck, and Bailey, back when he had the bout of diarrhea and blood coming from his anus. When they are well they dont bother with it. Research is based on observations - no?
