You're doing the right thing. Dogs should really not engage in vigorous exercise for at least 30-60 minutes after eating. :)
After my two doodles eat breakfast, they want to run around like crazy too. Years ago we had to go through a bloat experience with our standard poodle and that put a fear in me concerning exercise and eating! When we just had Charlie there was no issue, but when Beau arrived on the scene that made it more difficult. After breakfast, if they are acting up, I put the leash on one and het stays with me - generally sleeping under my desk while I am checking out DK! LOL The other then usually comes in our area and lays down too. I try to follow the guideline Karen mentioned regarding exercise either before or after eating - sometimes it is difficult.
I wonder why they want to play after eating?? I want to take a nap! LOL
Libby does not do mornings! After she eats she is out for the count! LOL Her zoomies hit in the afternoon when she goes outside or if someone comes in the house that she is very excited to see, but we settled her down very quickly. Outdoors no problem, but in the house does not work! LOL
Traz survived bloat and a twisted stomach in July 2013. Thank goodness he is still here to share his story. Traz eats twice a day; 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. We make sure that he has 1 to 2 hours of rest time on each side of his meals; no vigorous exercise before or after eating. Even though he had a gastropexy (stomach tacked to his rib cage) when he had his bloat surgery, he can still get gas. We have Pepcid on hand if he gets too gassy. Bloat is the #2 killer of dogs (cancer is #1) so you don't want to mess around with this situation. He is also on hypo-allergenic dog food. So, it sounds like you are doing the right thing in making them rest before and after eating. Good luck with your precious Doodles :-)
