Bonnie has just been spayed, and is only allowed quiet leash walks. No beach, no sand, no water.....and we live on a sand dune at the beach! Entertaining her is proving difficult

The first entertaining Bonnie...Ducks! is here

This is a transcript of today's walk.

"We're going for a walk! A walk! A walk! Got my harness, got my lead! Oh I'm so excited I just got to EAT my lead! "

"Calm down Bonnie, I'm already worried about those stitches!"

" boring old stitches. You and Dad have done nothing but fuss fuss fuss all morning about stitches. Can we go to the beach? The beach is this way! This way! beach? Oh, not beach. Estuary then? DUCKS! Oh, OK then not estuary. Where are we going?"

" we're going to walk along the river into town"

"Town? Oh that sounds exciting! Can I eat it?"

" no we are going to walk quietly to town to let the nurse have a look at your stitches. You like the nurse."

"Oh, river! I SEE DUCKS!!! Uh oh, I see those NOT ducks too. Let's not get too close to the Not Ducks. They hiss and are scary. Ooooo, what is this all smelly. Nice smelly. Mum I just wanted to smell it. It smells nice to eat. Mum, no fair pulling me away. Muuuuummmm....."

"Bonnie, we don't eat goose poo"

" we don't? Oh."

"Come along, Bonnie, the vet is this way."

"Vet! I love the vet! She always has treats. Will Karen be there? Karen LOVES ME. The vet is this way, let's go. Let's go FAST!"

"Bonnie, stop pulling."

" nooooo, want to run, want to jump, want to pull pull pull. Oh. Oh no.Mum, stop doing that turn around thing. You know the vet is is way. Oh OK, I'll be good. Huh."

"Here we are Bonnie. Now be good, no jumping"

"Sara! Sara! Sara! I love you Sara, have you any treats for me? let me jump and kiss you. Mum won't let me run and jump Sara. Tell her I can run and jump. Look how nicely I'm jumping now. Jump. jump. jump! Oh. Really? You don't want me to jump either? My scar is looking bobbly because I am too active? You're kidding me. I have done nothing but walk on the lead for THREE STINKING DAYS. Just how is that TOO ACTIVE?"

"Come along Bonnie, at least it isn't infected. She says it's healing nicely but you have been too active and you will have a lumpy scar. And whose fault will that be?"

"Was that question directed at me? How do I know whose fault it is? Can we go to the beach now? Can I run and chase seagulls? No? More walking on the leash? You are kidding me. No? Oh. Oh. What's that? Butterfly! I can catch you butterfly! I can leap into the air even with a leash! Look at me jump! Missed you butterfly, but I know you now I'll get you next time. What was that Mum? Why are you cross? I only jumped in the air after a butterfly! Oh you're laughing! You say you give up? Give up what? I just don't understand humans!"

Good luck with Bonnie. She sounds like a handful :-)
She is certainly one lively dog! I am a trail runner, and we picked her to be a running companion for me when I am alone on a trail deep in the woods miles from anywhere. We needed a long legged running dog, with lots of energy, and that is exactly what we have!

But in the meantime......

BTW I know she cannot start trail running before 18 months, and even then we have to build up the distance steadily, just like when people start running!

Oh Bonnie, hang in there for your Mom! You'll be on that beach and chasing those ducks in no time!

OMG, that is very cute.  AnnaBelle just turned two and she has that same attention span even now!

Thanks for the smile....never a "dull moment" with our Doodles.
