Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I had such a hard time naming our doodles. DH and I had our childrens names picked out while we were dating, so we never really agonized over it like I have the doodles. Then one day I realized I could change the dogs names anytime I wanted, as it's not like they have a Legal Birth Certificate or anything. Or I'd have to go to Court to get it changed.

I am seeing SO many dogs named Bella and I have never been the type to follow suit just because it was popular in anything. It bothers me a tad that it is so common. Who knew?

I think she would come to just about anything I called her. I tried "Come here Doggy" the other day and she came.

No, I wouldn't name her "Doggy" but you get the point.

So I am just tossing around some new names but do you think she'd have an identity crisis if I were to change it? Would she even care or notice? Just a thought.

Stewie....like Thorn Birds
Funny u should bring this up today.  I was talking to my husband about this.  We or should I say "I" named Oliver .  He liked the name so there was never a problem, but I also call him several variations of his name, Ollie, Mr. Oliver, etc.  I even call him Mr. Puppy too, and he comes to whatever name I use.  Out of curiosity I called for Mr. Doodle and he came running, so I think you can change the name and not have a problem, I think it is just our voices or the tone we use that they know.  Just my humble opinion though....

I'll bet every doodle here answers to the name "Doodle", or some variation thereof, lol!

Yes, a lot of us probably add the word Doodle in one form or another to their names. Murphydoodle, Belladoodle, Jackdoodle.

Such an interesting thought, I feel the same way as Jane and Laurie. I would not change Achilles name for anything. And I hated it when my son picked it out. It fits him. However he answers to all the nick names and abbreviations. Killy, Killy-doodle, Doodleroni, Killer, Killsabop... So make it work for you. What are your ideas?
I like Maggie, and the Nickname Maggie-Mae, Sophie, Sadie, Stella, Sedona, Kenai, Jackie, Oh the list goes on and on.  I'd probably want to change it all the time once I started!!
I had the name long before I had the doodle, so no, I don't think I would change it. Quincy does answer to many nicknames as well and if I just called him cookie he would come everytime.
Yes, but Quincy is just so unique and different, so I totally agree with you. Bella is so darn common, but yes SHE is not. She is just plain unique and different and CRAZY.  That is what I should call her  "Crazy-doodle"
You could always call her Belladonna, :>)  although that is the name of a plant with some other not so nice names.
Nah, Donna, She is crazy but she's not toxic. Google also says that there is or was a woman named Belladonna who is a porno star. I have no idea how many people know that, but I'd hate to be calling her and guys start looking around for a porno star to show up!
LOL
