I had such a hard time naming our doodles. DH and I had our childrens names picked out while we were dating, so we never really agonized over it like I have the doodles. Then one day I realized I could change the dogs names anytime I wanted, as it's not like they have a Legal Birth Certificate or anything. Or I'd have to go to Court to get it changed.

I am seeing SO many dogs named Bella and I have never been the type to follow suit just because it was popular in anything. It bothers me a tad that it is so common. Who knew?

I think she would come to just about anything I called her. I tried "Come here Doggy" the other day and she came.

No, I wouldn't name her "Doggy" but you get the point.

So I am just tossing around some new names but do you think she'd have an identity crisis if I were to change it? Would she even care or notice? Just a thought.

I never once thought to change Jack's name. I love it, I love him. It is not too common I don't believe, I grew up in a class where there was at least three or more Jennifer's in it... I wanted to fit in so bad I liked it at the time.... LOL Now, I like unique names....

My mom is going to name her puppy Molly Rose if it is a girl, or Murphy James if it is a boy... If I was naming it, I think I would go with Stanley or Henry!!!! I love that name, and Stewart but that name was just taken,

Jack has a million names mostly I call him Happy Jack, Jack Daniels, and Jack a doodle doo. He comes to anything depending on my tone of voice and if I say come here after it.

Sounds like the tone of voice is really the key, not the name. I know when Murphy and Marley lived together in the same house if you called one they both came. There were many things they would do that led us to think they really didn't know who's name was who's.
Molly is very cute and of course you know already how I feel about the name Murphy. Good choices. Never thought of giving them middle names. I just added a Bea to Bella and call her Bella-Bea, or Bella-B.

Like Donna I also had Tara's name picked out WAY before she came to live with us. But I always loved the name Bella too! But I found there were a LOT of Bella's already out there. Then I found a site that said it was the number one most popular female dog name!! So I guess you picked out a GOOD one!! LOL!! I wouldn't changed Tara's name but I might if she had a really common name. I agree with the others that the name is not of much importance to the dog since we all seem to be using nicknames quite successfully for recalling them!!!

Here is a link to a list of dog names...might be helpful if you decide to go for it!!

Thanks for the link. Now I see that my other choices are numbers 4-6 & 7. I am not very creative I guess. I will have to put on my thinking cap.
Wow, I only had one dog name make the list (Honey) and we didn't even pick that one. Maybe my sister was right when she told me Fudge was a hideous name for a dog. See how I listened?
Fudge is a totally unique and appropriate name for a choc doodle and Vern, well, he is just such a Vern. I think we should add Vern to our adjective list to describe happy-go-lucky, goofball yet handsome dogs.
Thanks, Donna. I knew my sister was stupid :)
I do think she would too. I had originally thought something without the "ie" or "y" sound at the end would be less confusing for Murphy. And we always liked the name Harley for him, but with having a Marley in the family already it seems a bit redundant.  I have always liked Albus's name, but I'm a big Harry Potter fan anyway.
My dogs have ended up with their names shortened or extended or rhyming slang or song sung ...,
I'm not shore they know there real names...Eg.: Ember-bem-bee.
But it is extremely difficult to name a dog. Especially when the kids/ husband tell you they won't be yelling that name at the park.. It becomes a family choice.

Since I named Daisy long before I even found her (we looked for a year for her) I figure I would keep it. If not Daisy than Rosey and Rosey was taken by my Sis In Law.

Daisy Doodle fit right into her name. We did this much like we chose our human daughters name.

I see no reason why you wouldn't change her name if you don't feel it.

I call Sophie 'Monkey Doodle' about 50% of the time.
