Cooper has been taking some holistic medicine to rid her of tapeworms which we think is causing her problems, but hasnt had any since she got sick

..... she had explosive diarrhea when we were at work tuesday - we came home to 3 big puddles and splatters all over the kitchen and lounge (thankfully we dont have carpet there). DH and I had Wednesday off and spent the day washing towels, cloths, her bed, the futon cover etc and washing her bum. DH had today off work too. Tomorrow we both have to go to work, we cannot get the day off.

She is still pooping pure liquid. She has had nothing to eat apart from some pumpkin, 2 eggs today, and a few little treats as a reward for coming back inside. She is drinking lots of water thankfully.

Is there anything else we can give her to help the diarrhea , maybe pepto bismol?..... She is feeling fine in herself (apart from being hungry)

Jack got tapeworms from his old daycare center it was such a pain. I ended up treating him the conventional way and gave him what the vet recommended. It was one pill and it took care of it the first time. The second time he got tape worm it took two different pills for him to get rid of it and I then pulled him out of that daycare.

I am thinking the holistic medication is upsetting the belly too much and maybe you need to try the regular meds. I know the pumpkin and the eggs are great for her. I am glad to hear she is drinking a lot of water.

I hope this poopy mess gets straightened out fast.

Feel better sweet princess..

I have used FortiFlora for my girl, but I've been told by someone on here that it doesn't actually help. It is supposed to balance their intestinal bacteria, so maybe something else like that would help? It seemed to work.
Forti flora contains parts from un-named animal so i wont use that. I have been sprinkling something similar onto the pumpkin
oh dear... Well, my girl won't be getting that ever again. Thankfully we're past the sensitive puppy stomach stage now.
Fortiflora is just a Purina gimmick to make money. Plain lowfat yogurt or probiotic capsules from a good private pet supply boutique work just as well, are much cheaper, and don't contain garbage.

what i leaned from raising my Rosie and running to the vet for everything was that as son as they have diarrhea switch the pup to boiled chicken, white rice and cottage cheese for 5 days. vets also have a low res dog food specially made for that if the trouble of making rice and chicken gets in the way. if it is not better in 5 days or if the pup gets worse, not eating or is vomiting then you going to the vet is important. also if there is cough - kennel cough which is highly contagious rush to the vet, with kennel cough you will be shown either a back entrance or they will mop after you.

hope everything gets better quickly. it is so sad to see the little fuzzers feel bad.

Glad I'm switching vets. We were not shown a back entrance nor did anyone clean the exam room after we left. They simply ushered another family in.
i remember thinking, what ... does she have the plague...but understood the precaution. we are in a temporary place and moving again soon so search for a new vet will begin shortly. i dread it. that is a good idea for a forum posting. best vets..i will post that in my area forum. thanks for the idea.
thankfully no cough, and she has been immunized against kennel cough
Just because they have the immunization, doesn't mean they can't get KC, both of mine had it, it's like a flu shot, hit or miss on the strain;)
Yeah, my Sunny was immunized against kennel cough but she still got it. I'd like to think that the vaccine lessened the severity and length of the illness though.
oh yes, also we did give Rosie pepto. that only works if the pup has an appetite. yesterday Rosie barely ate, so it is hard to give her pepto. i feel for you.
