Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Since I have been on DK almost since DK became a website, I have watched many people (including myself) come aboard and be educated not only about all things Doodle, but Dog things in general. I've often said that if it were not for DK, DH and I never would have survived two puppies, much less Liter mate puppies. We have learned so much of what to do and what not to do. We would probably be feeding Science Diet or IAMS as the last time we had a dog those were the go to foods. I know we would never have gotten Pet Insurance and I'm not sure how we would ever have made it through a torn CCL surgery, much less Sophie's cancer and loosing Sophie without DK. I know that we would never have AnnaBelle as it was only because of those here that I learned about her breeder and the wonderful puppies that result. Yes, we have a lot of fun here, but we also learn and educate others. With that said, I cannot tell you how many times lately I've just wanted to scream with the posts on FB on the various Doodle pages. Sometimes it feels to me like we have lost the battle. I get so frustrated when a question gets asked and 50 people jump in and say "I feed Purina and my dog is wonderful" or "look how cute she is stealing socks by the dozens". FB is a great social site and I love it for keeping up with our military friends all over the world, but as a teaching tool it, suc$s! It is too hard to have a discussion educating people when they make these posts when there are so many people handing out bad advice. 5.5 years ago I would not have known how much of it is bad advice, but I feel like 5.5 years and three doodles, and DoodleKisses have given me a little bit of knowledge and I can see how bad the advice is. The people don't have bad intentions, and they are trying to help, but ugh, it makes me crazy!

Very true. Many of them on health issues, sadly.
The diet books are the ones I know best. Some scary-weird stuff there.
Often, the diet "works" not because of the purported theories, but because when you look at the actual caloric intake, it's extremely low. Geniuses.
I recently received a book on Goldendoodles as a gift and believe me, it was COMPLETE hokum! It's actually quite hilarious!
Probably the same as the bogus Labradoodle book someone gave me, with just the name changed, lol.
Ha! Probably!
True Karen.
I'm sooo with you on this one!!!
I hate Facebook! I do think it is a great way to keep in touch with friends and family that you don't see often but there are acquaintances and some friends and family who shall remain nameless that totally abuse the social networking site. I do not care to see all the meals you have ate today, nor how many calories you burned while you worked out today, nor do I care to see "selfies" of your face because you think you look great today!
HAHA sorry totally a rant and off the subject of bad information being passed around but I think facebook is over rated and people on there are totally using it as a bragging tool for whatever they think they are great at today.... and yes...they think they are so wonderful and what they know is the best so they share bad information!
Haha - one of my pet peeves is people taking pictures of their food and posting them on FB!
LOL! I post meals all the time - so my son can see what he is missing...LOL. the thing is-you can block anyone's posts or anyone for that matter. I hate posts about what level someone is up to in some game I know nothing about and I block all that. But I love seeing updates and pictures of old friends, their kids/grandchildren and their dogs! I have re-connected with so many high school and college friends and even relatives with who I would otherwise have no contact.
I would not take advice about anything from a FB post and would never, ever ask for advice either. it's a social network, not a resource sharing source. Even here on DK- I tend to filter some of the information and advice that is posted. But my take is that FB is a great way to keep in touch with people you want to know about and who you are interested in seeing how they look today!
Sorry Lori! I'm sure your meals would be the exception!
