With the arrival of fall, Shelby has all the signs and symptoms of allergies. Beiing a Three and a half year old F1 Goldendoodle, we have never seen her scrach as much as we have within the last month. Does anyone else deal with the Dog Allergies? And so, what is a good natural treatment? Help please, Im an itch Dood!
Oh, yes, lots of us deal with seasonal allergies. If you do a search in the forum and in the Health and Medical Group, you'll find lots of info.
If it truly is a seasonal allergy, otherwise known as Atopic Dermatitis, or Atopy, there is no cure; symptoms can be controlled, but first, you have to know what you are dealing with. First step for that would be ruling out fleas, yeasts, and any other type of skin disease or infection. Is Shelby on a good flea preventative? It is flea season.
And you should also be aware that except for fatty acid supplementation, food has absolutely no bearing on seasonal allergies and switching foods will not make a difference, unless you are feedibng a really poor quality food with insufficient fatty acids or lots of junk ingredients which can exacerbate allergic symptoms. Grain-free high protein diets and/or fatty acid supplementation sometimes help reduce symptoms. But a food allergy would not present seasonally, and no food has the power to cure a genetic illness.
I feel your pain! Finn has developed seasonal allergies this fall too. We live in the Ohio Valley which is notorious for allergies-pets and humans alike. I don't have any natural remedies to offer. We took Finn to the vet and he was given an antihistamine so he does not end up with sores from chewing at his paws. I hope it gets better soon! Good luck
