Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all! I'm just curious if anyone has spent any time around Doodle mixes that aren't as popular on this site? I know there's plenty of great info here for Lab, Golden and Aussiedoodles, but we're considering looking at other options for our second dog. My DH says he can't handle another Labradoodle, he thinks Bernie is too unique and perfect, it wouldn't be fair to LD number two!
I want to stick with Doodles because of my allergies. But don't worry, I know no breed is a sure thing!
Anyhow, I appreciate your collective opinion!

Our first was a Schnauzer-we loved them because they don't smell doggy(Sammy smells like popcorn when he needs a bath:), VERY intelligent and extrememly sweet and obviously no shedding. My doodle and my schnauzer do everything together. They are much like a big dog in personality, feerless and gutsy.
I am very wary of other doodles types. I often see non shedding dogs being poodleized. I don't understand why you would take a pure bred non shedding dog and breed it with a poodle. I think they just want to get on the designer dog band wagon and make a quick buck.
My sister had a cockapoo that was mad. It actually went crazy. Looking back all she did was think oh cute puppy. That was devastating to her and the family. A spaniel is a low maintenance breed requiring grooming same as a miniture poodle. I would not purposely cross the two. If the cross breeding of the breeds does not better the standards of both the original breeds than I see no purpose in it. People are now doing puggiepoos!
The doodle was bred for purpose and thankfully I wanted a dog that met that purpose. I had to turn away from alot of cute puppies in the process as they are all beautiful.
Why not go golden doodle instead of labradoodle. They are different from each other even though they can look similiar.
I agree Lorraine, that there's a lot of self-serving breeders out there that want to come up with the next cutest dog - rarely in the best interest of the animal, or the potential owner.
I guess I should have know that's what this discussion would come to! And it's totally okay, I love how dedicated Doodle owners are to being responsible pet parents.
I suppose I was just looking for a new idea we hadn't thought of yet to balance wanting a playmate for Bernie and not wanting another LD - but with all the wonderful characteristics of a LD! The plot thickens!
We'll likely go the Doodle rescue route, find an addition that captures our hearts and stop thinking so much =)
I just don't think there's anything better than a doodle! Yes, another LD or even GD can be so much the same, but I think they each have their own look and personality that make them oh so different from each other, We have a little Jack Russell that's 12 1/2 years old, and not that I'm anxious for her to die, but WHEN she does, I'm gettting another doodle!!
