Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Has anyone's doodle had to have FHO surgery? My Goldendoodle Dazi is almost 7 months old and has been having trouble. I took her to the vet and the Dr did xrays and she has severe hip dyplasia. She is having FHO surgery on the right hip wednesday. The surgeon says this is the best thing for her instead of a full hip replacement. She is in a lot of pain and I hope this is going to help her. She will have the left side done after she has healed up from the right side. I sick with worry and wondering if anyone else has gone through this and how is the recovery for them. I hate this for my baby. I cant stand to see her in pain.

I had a labradoodle that I rescued after he was hit by a car and had a broken hip. Prior to that, he had been the neighborhood stray that moved from house to house - but wouldn't stay with anyone for long. We fell in love with him and decided that we wanted to pay for his surgery and adopt him. We convinced him that if we were going to pay all of his medical expenses that he had to stay with us. Guess our discussion worked because he never tried to leave us. They did the FHO surgery on him. He recovered quickly and did fine. His only problem was much later in life (he lived to be 14 and the surgery was done when he was approximately 3 or 4 year old). Toward the end of his life, he had a lot of weakness in that hip - but for many years you would never know that he had the surgery.
I let the breeder know just so she would be aware of it. She was less than concerned. Said she would make sure not to breed those two dogs together again. I think she should have at least notified the others who got a dog from the same litter. Even though she has a 2year guarantee on hip dysplasia, she has a clause that it is only guaranteed if you dont spay your dog before 10months old. I had Dazi spayed at 6 months because thats when her Dr said she needed to have it done. I know one person who has a sibling and I have let her know also. Thank you very much for your concern, I really appreciate it.
thank you very much. i will keep you updated. Dazi is so sweet and such a good girl. I just hate this for her. Your baby is beautiful too. :)
I agree with Joanne, I would fight a little harder. Her website emphasizes health and genetic testing, and a two year health guarantee. This breeder also mentions DK on her websiteshe has a group here, and a lot of her owners are DK members; maybe the opinions of DK members matter to her. She should not breed either of those dogs again.
We have a group here for owners of doodles with HD, many had TPO surgery but some had the FHO surgery done. Hopefully you can connect with some of them and get some insight and support. Here's a link: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/doodleswithhipdysplasia?commentId...
I hope the surgery goes well and Dazi is soon pain free.
Thank you, I was very disappointed in what the breeder responded. So many people have told me that Dazi is lucky to have me but I see it as I'm the lucky one to have that beautiful baby in my life. She was meant to be mine. She was the last one in her litter who had not been picked so I got her. She is a joy in my life. We already have a strong bond. I am taking out a loan or do whatever it takes so she can have her surgery's and heal and have a wonderful happy life with no pain.
