I have an 8 month pup. He has never had a hair cut because my husband loves his long wavy look. While he is super cute, I think he should have a summer cut. My groomer says the only option is a 1.5" clipper cutter. Is this true? Any suggestions... What is best? Thanks.

I agree.  They are adorable and I love the bow and bandanna :)

I groom doodles and 1.5 " combs for the blade are all I have ever found--and yes, scissoring is a much longer process--they would have to do the grooming for twice as long and thus would need to charge more, since they could have gotten another dog done in that time. I like Milo's cut--I always scissor the legs, tail and head (using a clipper in those places is uncomfortable for the dog and makes the feet look "dished") so this "Milo" technique should not cost as much.

You need to tell your hubby that the hair has to be shorter SOON--the doodles go thru a transition between 10 months and 14 months when their adult coat comes in--they can change a lot--but more importantly, they will mat a lot. The puppy coat gets tangled up in the adult coat and boy, it can get ugly! Hence, the shaving when people do not realize that brushing only detangles the first inch and under that inch, they are one big mat. So, this might be a good time to get it shorter and then let it grow out after that transition period is over.

I want to thank everyone for all of the great advice and doodle education. Baxter is getting a 1.5" cut this Friday and we are totally in agreement now that this is the best approach. I will attempt to post before and after pictures. Many thanks!!!!!
