Hi fellow doodlers. Having recently moved to Texas from So. California, I now have to deal with fleas and tick prevention. We first gave the dogs Trifexis but found it to be making them so sick, and after researching it, decided NOT to give it to them again. I used Advantage drops for the fleas but am wondering what the best and easiest way to prevent heart worms is. Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated and also the easiest form of administering it.

I use K9 Advantix II for the fleas and ticks and give Heartgard Plus for the heartworms. Heartgard is chewable and the dogs think it's a treat for standing still while I apply the flea medicine. I live in South Carolina and use both year round. No problem with fleas or ticks on the dogs so far.

I use the Heartgard as well and haven't had any problems with it.

I also use Heartgard Plus and the doodles have had no issues from it.  I think you need to have your doodle tested first for heartworm prior to starting a heart worm medication.  Heartgard is a chewable tablet given once a month.

I use Heartgard for heart worms and Frontline for ticks and fleas…I live in FL and Darla does not go outside unless leashed so she doesn't get into too much trouble…I researched Trifexis and being retired from Big Pharma I said no to that…too many side effects for me.  So far no problem with either product I use..in fact, Darla loves Heartgard…she devours it like a treat!

Thank you everyone for your valued advice. Guess it looks like Heartgard Plus it is. Both furkids have been tested prior to getting them on Trifexis so no worries there as they have only been off that horrible stuff for a month or two.
