Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Monday, July 9th is my big day! I go pick up my goldendoodle in Sacramento,CA. I bought a carry on Sherpa medium size carries up to 16pds. It is only 10 inches high and looks really short. Anyone have any tips. I think he will wiegh at least 10pds at 8 weeks. He was 5pds in photo and only 6 weeks old. I have no idea how tall he is.

call you breeder. She should be able to give you info on how tall your pup is. Just remember that whatever carrier you use, your puppy must stay in that carrier under the seat the entire time. You can check the website for the airline you are using and find the max dimensions of allowable underseat carriers too.
When you go to check in at the airport, you will need to put your pup in the carrier for them to weigh it on the same place that they weigh the luggage. You can then take your pup out of the carrier. As you go through security, you will need to go through the old metal detectors not the newer scanners. You will need to take off your pup's collar and put it in the bag and send that through the x-ray machine. I think the rule is that your pup should stay in the bag after you get through security but my daughter usually takes her dog (7 pounds) out and holds her on her lap until it is time to get on the plane (unless someone complains). Good luck! I flew with my daughter's dog by myself once and it can be a juggling act getting through security but all in all it was alot easier than I was expecting.
It is done all the time, but I do think that the case (carrier) for the puppy needs to fit in the area under the seat in front of you. Most of the time they just sleep, but sometimes people can get annoyed by having a puppy on the flight (as they can get annoyed with a baby on a flight) but most people just croon over a puppy. Have a good flight and enjoy that puppy.
I picked up Holly at 7.5 weeks of age because Heather of Cheyenne Valley Labradoodles and Goldendoodles, North of Dallas, Texas, stated that Holly might be too big to fly in the cabin at 8.5 weeks. At that time Holly was gaining almost a pound a day. She weighed 7 and 3/4 pounds when I flew to Texas to get her.
