Just wondering what type food dish do you use? I'm thinking of getting one of those elevated ones that holds the 2 bowls so that my pooch will not have to lean down to eat. Do you think it makes a difference? Just wondering :)

I will admit that Sadie eats out of a vintage McCoy dog dish that I found on eBay. I collected various pieces of art pottery for a while, and when I decided to get a dog it was a good excuse to get another piece of McCoy. It says MAN'S BEST FRIEND HIS DOG around the sides.
I use to feed Camus on his own table, but after a serious scare I put his dishes on the floor. He was very sick and, of course, I asked advice here in Doodlekisses,as well as researched bloat. Like others have posted there is new information on feeding techniques. It turned out that he was diagnosed as gastroenteritis, but I decided to follow the new advice on feeding.
We've used these elevated bowls for both of our Golden Doods (2&4). They have never shown any issues, except on 2 or 3 occasions they've got their tags somehow hooked into the stand and proceeded to pull a rodeo routine where they are the bull trying to "buck off" the food stand with some sudden and violent bucks across the kitchen.....very disconcerting. Other than that they are great!
Sasha and Oliver have elevated bowls, I never had a problem with them. Ollie is so tall he would really have to lay down and eat. A friend of mine has a doodle that had vomtiting problems with one of her doodles, the vet suggested elevated bowls, once she switched the problem went away. Maybe since both my doodles have always eaten out of elevated bowls they are use to it???
We use on-the-floor metal bowls. Ned, my smaller dood, often lays down to eat, but the bigger ones stand.
Glad you asked this question-we were also confused about bloat. Our doods are small and eat off the floor but we were worried because they ate so fast. Ended up getting both slow feed bowls to slow them a bit, it worked at first but now they figured it all out!
Parker has the basic stainless steel bowls (I heard that they keep bacteria away). Though I am thinking of getting him a "slow eater" bowl because he gobbles his food down so fast and then belches like a college kid drinking beer! I am also thinking that maybe his eating too fast has contributed to his throwing up problems! Who knows.
There is a very good discussion on raised feeding bowls with links to discussions on bloat.

This type of discussion comes up frequently. We should all be aware of the signs and dangers og bloat.
