Is it normal for a nine week old puppy to be having about 6-7 bowel movements/day?  They are very normal, picture perfect poops, not loose or too soft...just right.

I think once you are fully transitioned to the Orijen, you will see a reduction in the amount of stool. Much less filler so much less waste.

Okay thanks Karen...it sure is overwhelming for a person with a new puppy when you have so many different opinions from vets, breeders, family, friends, puppy books...it's hard to know just what to do.  And in the end all I want is to do the very best for my sweet little girl!

Again, many thanks for your help.  It's nice to have a friendly, kind group of people who are knowledgeable & have lots of experience with Doodles to ask about these issues when they come up.

Enjoy your day,

Michelle

I think you will find that there are many opinions out there for sure, but this group will often steer you in the right direction based on their direct experience with doodles--one thing to be wary of--vets get a kick back from food manufacturers if they sell the food at their clinic--so many people end up feeding something that is not high quality but costs a lot because the vet recommended it and they get it at the vet's office--not true in your case, but something to be aware of in the future...my daughter's a vet, so I know that she gets a % of any food sales in the clinic--unfortunately for her pocketbook, she is only in the clinic one day a week and out treating cows and horses the rest of the time...

I also am glad to hear you are making a switch and once the pup adjusts to the new food, you will see a difference I am sure.

In fact, the owners of the vet practice get the full profit on the sales of all foods, just the same as a store would if you bought it there. Apparently, they also reward their associates with a commission as well.

Hi There. We've had Maggie for 11 days now and she is 10 weeks old now. She also is having on average 8 bm's a day right now. It's only 10am and she's already had 3 this morning. LOL!

Krista, is the stool small, firm and well-formed? If not, I would bring a stool sample in to the vet for testing. It's very common for doodle puppies to have giardia, and if your pup is having 8 BMs per day, that could be the reason.

Hi Karen, her stools are well formed (solid) and small to medium in size. I have also heard giardia is fairly common for doodle puppies. I'm planning to take a stool sample in to our vet to get it checked out though. Thank you for your response.
