What a story--this is a good example of people who are dog lovers vs. people who are JUST dog owners--very inspiring--and upsetting too! Be warned! BUT it has a happy ending!!

I sent him a message also.
What a story, what a sad situation. I wish poor Missy all the best.
I also saw this on the nightly news and was so glad to hear that a group of people got together to rescue the dog. Then I read a couple of articles on the internet and was sadden to learn the owner feels he should get his dog back. Outrageous! Hiking with a dog and not being prepared, not putting appropriate hiking booties on the dog, and then leaving her on the mountain to die! This man should not be allowed to have any pet. I'm hoping they let one of the young people who rescued her keep her while the case is argued in the courts.
In the Yahoo poll under the article, 56% of respondents said the story makes them feel angry. Only 16% said it made them feel "inspired".
Ginny, I saw this on TV this morning. I was so upset that this guy would leave this beautiful girl to die on a mountain WTD?
I pray the guy does NOT get her back but I fear the only way that doesn't happen is if he is "publicly shamed" enough that he backs down. In the eye of the law she, Missy, belongs to him.
Post and share this all over FB and anywhere you can. The FB GSD Community Page is involved in spreading the word now, hopefully we can all help Missy go to her rightful home ASAP.
And if anyone wants to express their thanks or support to Scott and Amanda Washburn, here are their FB pages:
Amanda: https://www.facebook.com/#!/washburnaj
Scott: https://www.facebook.com/#!/scott.washburn.54
Good idea.
I couldn't find a way to message Amanda but left a message for both Scott and Amanda through his page.
Thanks, F. I subscribed to Amanda's public news feed, you can do that without being on her "friends" list. I'm hoping she'll post soemthing if there's a way to help.
Looks to me like this thing is going viral, which I think is a good thing. Maybe a public outcry will influence the courts to make the right decision. That's whatt shut down Boggs Mtn and got Peanut fired, maybe it will help Missy, too!
