What a story--this is a good example of people who are dog lovers vs. people who are JUST dog owners--very inspiring--and upsetting too! Be warned! BUT it has a happy ending!!

Go DKers! I had no idea that this post would start a movement! And help to ensure that happy ending I am hoping for!

Thought you may be interested in an update with a bit more information and photos of Missy (the german shepard abandoned at the top of a dangerous CO mountain): http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/08/17/man-faces-charges-of-abandoni...

If you aren't able to read the article or see the video, the short of it is that he has been charged with animal cruelty and Missy is still under vet supervision but will be moved to a shelter once well.  The next court date isn't until mid-October so it will be a long wait for Missy, yet again.

Still can't believe he ever took a dog on this grueling hike in the first place, that he could have left her without trying to save her the next day, and that she survived the altitude and weather for 8 days.  My family camped at 10,000 feet last week and couldn't stay the 2nd night because it was so unbelievably cold even in our tent with ample sleeping bags, blankets, hats and coats.

Thanks for the update.

Thanks Shannon. She is really one tough girl to have survived as she did under those circumstances.  Part of the hope with the petition was to move things along more quickly for her so she didn't end up waiting in the shelter for months. It seems wrong that Ortolani is free to enjoy life and Missy will end up in jail. :(
