We just got a second doodle. Sophie is 11 months old and we got her sister (same mom & dad) who is 10 wks and her name is Daisy. I have noticed that most doodle owners have more than one. I assume, like us, the first one is so great, get a friend. They are doing really good together, even sharing food and water bowls at times. They play non stop when they are out together. Daisy is much more active than Sophie was and I kind of think it could be because she has another to play with where Sophie didn't. The Vet said I should not have gotten 2 females because of dominance issues. Sohie is not a dominant dog, she has gone to doggie play days often and gets along with all sizes of dogs and I am the Alpha at home. Any advice on raising 2 in harmony and your thoughts on 2 females.
Congrats on your second doodle. I have two male beagles who are litter mates and they are inseparable. Baxter is the more dominant but all 3 dogs get along well. I have also had two females in the past that were not litter mates and joined the family at different times. They too were inseparable. I don't think you need to worry.
Conratulations on getting a sister for doodle #1. So long as they grow up together in your house, you should not have any problems. I have had two boys, two girls, one of each and occasionally a 2 and 1 combo. It is going to be so very much fun for you to watch them grow up and play together. Enjoy
I grew up with female dogs (not same breeds). My mom has always had two female dogs West Highland White Terriers - there have never been any behavior issues. Currently we have 3 male dogs with no problems, My daughter, daughter-in-law, and son all share the same house with 3 neutered male dogs (doberman age 11, Whippet age 5, Lab age 1) and 1 female Whippet puppy who is not neutered. They have no problems - although when the puppy comes in season, I don't know what that will do to to mix.
I have 2 male doodles, one is 2 yrs old and the other is 7 months. They are like kids, want each others toys & treats and they wrestle constantly but once it's bedtime, they stop. If I don't want them wrestling in the house, I just send them outside. I usually just sit and watch their shenanigans. They make me laugh all the time. It was hard at first but I'm glad I did it.
