here is another one..just breaks my heart that these are on craigslist.
I know what you mean! And you wonder, the dog is always perfect but the family is just too busy. Either the dog is not so perfect, or if the dog is perfect how did such a busy family help the dog become this way? Were they not busy when they decided to get the dog?
It seems to me that it's the family who are less than perfect!
Ditto. I know there are extenuating circumstances sometimes, but come on!
Rarely does it turn out that the dog is perfect, but then you knew that, because there are no perfect dogs.
When they give the "no time " excuse, it may mean that they really don't have time...to bond with the dog, to trrain the dog, to exercise the dog, to clean up after the dog, to teach their kids how to interact with the dog, to groom the dog, to walk the dog, and so on. And of course, the dog didn't come from a responsible breeder, or there would be a clause in the contract regarding rehoming.
People who give up healthy young dogs are almost always first-time dog owners who had no idea what was involved in owning a dog. I expect all of this is true of the first CL ad; the "inside dog" comment is also revealing.
But of course, often there are problems that the owner is not revealing...health and/or temperament issues.
Give them contact details for DRC - that way they know their "so called beloved" dog will go to the great home it deserves
I just don't trust these craigslist ads
Oh, it's probably legitimate. Many of the doodles who are relinquished to rescue by their owners were originally posted on Craig's List. The owners don't know any better, they think it' a choice between finding a home for the dog themselves or dumping him in a kill shelter. Many people are unaware that private breed-specific rescue groups with foster homes even exist. Even many people who apply to adopt DRC dogs assume that they are in a shelter of some kind.
When you see a doodle on CL, the best thing to do is contact the person and tell them about the dangers of rehoming through CL, and then refer them to a rescue website or give them the contact info.
Of course, some of them are looking for money, selling the dog, basically, and they can't do that with a rescue group.
:o(
I don't even know what to say....the one with photos is beautiful and the one without sounds the same. I would love a 75lb apricot doodle, Daisy wouldn't but I would.
Too Sad!
I wish that some law could be passed that you need to have formal training BEFORE you are allowed to purchase a dog. I believe that first time dog owners do not have a clue as to what is involved with owning a dog and just give up on the dog ... and who suffers but the poor dog !!!! that is why most shelters are full of beautiful unwanted pets because families are "too busy" or "don't have the time" - well what did you think ???? the dog was going to train, feed, walk itself???? It is just pure ignorance - sorry but I just feel so bad for these poor dogs that show up on Craig's list or any other place, I wish I could take them all and give them training, lots of love and a happy life where someone truly loves them, it just breaks my heart and makes me very sad and mad at the same time. Pets are not disposable !!!!!
Amen, Barbara.
Thanks for agreeing with me Karen :) I just get sooooo mad when I see this, I have always been an animal lover and grew up with all kinds of pets from a turtle to a horse and everything in between. My parents were obviously animal lovers as well and taught us from a very young age about the responsibilty of taking care of a pet. If you had a pet YOU needed to take care of it, my parents never said no to anything we would drag home - LOL but it taught us good values about what is involved in taking care of animals. People now just think that pets are disposable.. and just get rid of it if it does not work out - sad, very sad :( Does any of these irresponsible pet owners ever think of what they are putting the poor dog thru??? - I guess not... probably too busy !!!!
