Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello!

We are planning to get a goldendoodle next year and are deciding between an F1 and an F1b.  I understand the differences between the coats and possibilities for shedding, but wondered if the F1b's are less calm given the higher concentration of poodle in them.  We want a relatively laid back dog, and so I was curious whether the F1's tend to be calmer, given the 50% Golden Retriever in them, or if it depends more on the parents' temperaments rather than whether the dog is an F1 or F1b.  Thanks for any guidance you can share!

Best,

Wendy

I'm not sure of the answer to this question, but our Yogi is an F1 goldendoodle, and I adore his temperament. Goofy and cute, cuddly and generally calm.

I'd say check with a breeder who breeds both the F1 and F1b, see if they can give you some guidance.

Enjoy the search and finding your new puppy!

Thanks so much!

Welcome!

I saw on your page you had a rag doll cat. We did too, she was such an awesome cat.
We only had her 2-3 years before we found out she had heart defects, and she passed.
I loved that cat! You're going to love the goldendoodles :-)
I have two F1 Goldendoodles and they are both Calm, and Sweet. Definitely laid back. Good Luck~

Ragley is an F1b and she is SO calm and relaxed. She loves just hanging out where the people are and even her "puppy wild times" are not as spastic as some other puppies I have experienced. I would imagine temperament has more to do with the parents and which puppy you choose.

We have an F1b goldendoodle and he is very laid back, gentle and loving. Both of his parents have calm temperaments as well. I do recall that his female litter mates were quite rambunctious, though. :-) I think you just have to talk with the breeder and let them know what you are looking for.

Beowoof does have what I like to call his "Spazzy McSpazerstein" moments, usually around 9:00 pm. He tears around the house at breakneck speed and wrestles all of my schnauzers. After 15 minutes he's worn out though. LOL
Ask your breeder if they do temperament testing. Sawyer is our first experience with a puppy and dog in general so we wanted one that would be easy. Our breeder did temperament testing and matched us with him. He's been super easy. Not sure how perfect the testing is, but we were able to rule out a couple of puppies due to more dominant tendencies. Not that they were bad puppies, but just that Sawyer would be easier for a first time puppy.

Thanks so much to everyone for all of the great info.  It's reassuring to know that if we get an F1b (which  is likely due to allergies) that s/he can still be laid back and relaxed.  Can't wait to get our new puppy in 2014.

Good luck in your search. Which ever you decide, you will be thrilled with the Doodle. I also have 3 Ragdoll cats. Just curious if they effect your allergies? We have no allergies here, but have always been told they are close to being hypoallergenic
I've always said the Ragdoll cat is the feline version of a Golden Retriever!
My Raggies arrived long before Enzo. 2, a brother and sister, will be 10 next week, the other, is 8. They are wonderful cats...like I said, very Golden Retriever like.

We got the Ragdoll because she didn't bother my husband's allergies too much.  He still is taking Zyrtec, but seems to be fine with her in the house.  She's been a delight!

I think it all depends on the temperament of the parents.  I have seen high strung poodles, high strung goldens as well as laid back ones of each breed.  Exercise and training also go along way ;)
