Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello!
We are planning to get a goldendoodle next year and are deciding between an F1 and an F1b. I understand the differences between the coats and possibilities for shedding, but wondered if the F1b's are less calm given the higher concentration of poodle in them. We want a relatively laid back dog, and so I was curious whether the F1's tend to be calmer, given the 50% Golden Retriever in them, or if it depends more on the parents' temperaments rather than whether the dog is an F1 or F1b. Thanks for any guidance you can share!
Best,
Wendy

I have a F1 goldendoodle- who is very hyper! Hes almost 1 and still pretty hyper. BUT he is the sweetest, most loveable, awesome pup ever =)
We have an F1 and she is the most awesome girl - she is sweet, smart, silly, goofy, graceful, stubborn, lazy, loving, tolerant, patient, nosy, considerate, intelligent, and amazing. Calm and sweet were what I was after and I chose her, so I like what I got - her mother is a family goof gorgeous Golden and her father is a rug of a Standard Poodle.
Her littermates are all sharing one trait - they love people. Some of them don't shed and some are twice her size! She is truly a standout in a long life of canine companions. She was the 'Poodliest' in her litter - but sheds like a cat. I had a Ragdoll cat years ago - fabulous, but he was anti-social when he came to me. Maine Coon cats are also wonderful - long haired cats do tend to shed less than short haired ones.
Our girl is a sponge, she can go from being a rug to being totally ebullient in seconds - she can play ball until our arm falls off, but she can happily snooze all day long.
We can't really disseminate which of her traits are from which parent sometimes, at sixteen months old though I can tell you that she is still 'who' she was when we got her and the blend is wonderful. Yet there are many with opposite stories!
