Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My fiance and I are thinking about getting new cars because of we of our new puppy. We also have taken up kayaking. We currently own two cars, a Lexus Es 350 and a Porsche Cayenne S. I've been driving Lexus sedans since I was 16 years old and I really wanted something different. So I'm thinking of getting a Porsche 911 Cabriolet. This is a small convertible with a small back seat. My doodle is about 6 months old and weighs ~ 35 lbs but he is a standard Goldendoodle. He is very gangly and tall. His father is a 30 lb medium poodle and mother was a 60 lb f1 Goldendoodle. My Dad thinks getting the 911 would be very unfair for Lucky because he won't be able to fit but I've seen some photos on this forum where people have their dog in their convertible. My fiance wants to get rid of the Cayenne for the Prius V or MB GLC to be more gas efficient. I am very determined to get the 911 convertible but can a Standard Goldendoodle fit? I also want to mention that Lucky is my service dog so he would go to places with me a lot. I've attached a few photos of the Porsche 911 backseat and a photo I found of a very large dog in that exact car. I've also saw on Porsche forum you can add a modification to make it dog-friendly. It is the photo with the red exterior. What does everyone think?
Update: After the Convertible Rollover research, I've decided no on the 911. Despite the rollover bar protection, the test on youtube shows a very poor outcome to any serious rollovers. I am now gonna look at the Range Rover HSE. Seems very dog friendly and is one of the larger suvs.

Yeah that is what my dad said. He thinks I should keep the Cayenne. I did find this back seat modification and a golden retriever sitting it down.
Oops! I didn't realize that the Porsche was an SUV! Like I said before, I am really bad with cars:)
The cayenne is a suv, the 911 is a convertible. I'm not great with cars either. I only know cars my family or friends have driven me in. hehe. I know nothing about convertibles at all and never owned one. Always wanted one though. heh
Same with me! I just always think of a Porsche as a convertible:D
haha me too! That is why I want one!
Since Lucky is with you wherever you go and thereby in the car as much as you, then a car that is comfortable and safe for BOTH would be paramount. I would be afraid that a big dog in a small convertible's back seat would go flying in an accident, maybe even with a harness. I like a lot more car wrapped around my dogs when they travel with me though. There are so many choices available it makes me dizzy to buy a new car! lol
You know what is funny, the porsche dealership salesmen told me not to get that car. Off course I went a second time and another dude told me that he sold a 911 to a vet and he fits his 110lb Rotwillers in the back seat. Not sure how that one works.
Hhmmmmm..... I think that when the top is down , he might not be able to fit:( But, he could just be going through a growth spurt and might not get any bigger? (I doubt that though:) If you are thinking of going energy efficient, a smaller SUV like the Ford Escape might be good.(It has something called Eco Flex in it?) I had to ask someone about the SUV so I don't know about any bigger convertible if you prefer them :) I wish I could help more but I am not good with cars;^)
I am a SUV or crossover kind of girl, so my pick would be what you already have. But I know that wasn't really the question.
Haha. My dad told me to keep my cars too. He does complain of dog hairs in my car due to the multiple pets I own and will never sit in any of my cars. I used to have a Maremma Sheepdog, a relative of the Great Pyrenees. Now I have a non shedding doodle, pug and a pomeranian. The car sees less hair but more sand because of the new puppy. He likes to roll in mud
For me, convertibles scare me to death. I think I have seen way too many roll over accidents. I know they have a roll bar, but that isn't much comfort to me.
