Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all doodle lovers, (This is going to be bit long. I will try my best to keep it short)

I see all the dog pictures in doodlekisses with cute beards, so I am trying to imagine how my 15 weeks old pup will look like when he is fully grown.

I was reading Goldendoodle coat changes and saw smooth-coat Goldendoodles will never have a beard. Well, to be honest, I was bit disappointed. I am worried if my doodle is a smooth-coat.

Does anyone has any experience where you pup wasn’t fluffy but got a cute beard when grown up?
Here are two pictures of him. (My dad is holding him the one I took yesterday, 15weeks. The other one was taken at 12weeks)

I was told he is F1 Standard. (Father-standard poodle. Mother-golden retriever. Both parents are at 60lb weight range).

Well, my opinion is that you really don't have anything to worry about. I think you will end up with a nice beard! Our Sophie was the same way. Your puppy probably even is ahead of where our Sophie was at 15 weeks. The top of her nose is still a little flat (unlike our Lucy whose is very full), but she is still has a nice beard!

Oh my goodness, have no fear, I think the beard will be there...I know that the coat changes so much the 1st year. I thought Oliver was going to flat coated and he is definately not. He is soft and wavy with some curl...He had a great beard, but I had it trimmed, when they drink, they leave a water trail with the dripping from the beard. So if you want that beard, be sure to follow with a towel to wipe his face, lol, water on the floor is not a good thing, especially if you don't know it is there, and you slip and fall...Give him time, his coat isn't even in yet, his adult coat, anyway...He is sooo cute what a sweet face...Oliver is 8 mos old and I am not sure if this is what his coat will be. I am hoping tht it stays that way, I love his full front paws, and I love that his color is that of a golden, but at this time, I could care less what his coat turns, I am madly in love with this dog!!!!, and u will be with yours too, lol, just enjoy him...Doodles are definately the coolest dogs....Cheryl
Your doodle is definitely going to have a beard.
Also, I don't know where you got the idea that smooth-coated doodles don't have beards- that's usually the only place that a flat coated doodle does have longer hair...the beard and on the legs/tail. Plus, your doodle is not flat coated.
Relax. Your puppy is going to be what he's going to be...size, beard, etc. Enjoy him.
I am not certain you can tell what a puppy will look like when grown. I have two doodles. One was a rehome at 12 weeks, and the first owner told me that the breeder said he would never have a fluffy face. Well, he did fluff out! His nose is smooth, but his face definitely got fluffy and he has a beard. I have pasted a puppy photo and grown up photo below. Java Joe is the dog on the right in the second photo.

I think your doodle is absolutely gorgeous.

Wow that is so hopefully for my doodle. I am wondering if she'll get the facial beard.

Here's a recent discussion about coat-types, specifically flat-coats, with good photos of different coat types:

Ok, it seems my pup has a Wavy Coat according to the website. Thanks all. All your doodles look soooo handsome. I can relax now :)
Rein, there's no way to know for sure. That's the thing with a mixed breed dog...you HAVE to be prepared for all sorts of looks because there is no "ONE" goldendoodle look. Since it is not a pure breed, each dog will look a little different. For anyone out there who is considering a doodle, please know that just because you see a few doesn't mean that YOUR dog will be exactly like those you've seen before. Be prepared to get a dog that is different. Working with a good breeder will help you more likely get the curly or fluffy or straight coated dog you want, but no guarantees.

Each doodle is different and if you were hoping for a very specific dog you might be disappointed.

However, you, Rein, probably WON'T be disappointed because I'm sure your pup has already won your heart and you'll love it no matter what it looks like. That said, I think there is still hope for a beard in your pup.
I have 2 labradoodles and I prefer them without the beard : ) It's much neater and cleaner I think. Also, maybe it's not fair to dogs but i like the females particularly without a beard. I'm always trimming my 2 to get the hair out of their eyes, cleanup under their chin and ears, etc. I guess it's always a matter of taste and often we what what we don't have. still, A beard seems likely in your case, though and either way you have a very cute doodle.
There is probably a lot to be said about not having a dripping beard traipsing through the house!
What a cutie!!!
This discussion is more than a year old, lol.
