Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

What are the differences between Goldendoodles and Labradoodles? Preference? Size? Shedding? Coat colors?

So far I have only been searching for Goldendoodle puppies, but perhaps I should be looking at both?

Any info that Doodle parents can share would be great!

Thank you for your kind words, Frances! Losing my Haus has been the most pain I have ever known...in some ways it has been worse than losing people! I get extremely bonded with my animals and arrange my days (and life really) around them as it sounds like you do as well! I am partial to bigger dogs, so I am looking for a larger doodle. I see you live in CA, did you get Frankie from a local breeder there? Thank you again for the warm welcome, the information you shared, and for being such a great DogMom!!!

You are welcome and as you can see I can go on and on about my doodles. Please check out my page for my breeder and she is in Goodrich, MI which is about 450 miles from you.  She is wonderful and I have a feeling that she might entertain the idea of meeting you some of the way.

I don't know if she is doing standards any longer, altho Bella is and was born last year, but you can check out her site. Murphys parents were Zoey and Sammy. Murphy is apricot but his brother that he flew in with is creme.  I have a feeling Zoey may be retired.

Murphy is 65 pds. He is tall and lean and elegant. Prances when he runs. (Bella doesn't prance, she pounds the ground more than prances over it, lol)

Zoey was about 60 and Sammy about 47, if I remember correctly. She told me he would be about 60-65 pds and that he would most likely not shed, and that he was sweet and calm and a bit reserved and he is all that.

We are not to recommend or really otherwise advertise our breeders, so breeders names and websites aren't given on the forum but are mentioned on some of our pages.  I can mention that her pups are raised inside her home with her dogs and 2 adorable loving children who handle and care for the puppies as well, so my two came as well socialized as any 8 and 10 week old pups could.

As for the name, it is a pretty popular one, as a matter of fact, my Murphy's brother;s name is Murphy as are at least 2-3 other's in his litter.

Again as for my breeder, she told me Bella was a cuddle bug and very smart and a little independent, and she is all that and more!!!  I wasn't prepared for her outstandingly disgusting ability to eat her own poop!!! But we are working on that.

She is an old soul and seems to communicate in a way Murphy never does. So you can see they are very different and from the same breeder and the same breed. Go figure!

Thanks Sue, your breeder is actually one that I emailed and she called me last night although I wasn't home. Hopefully we will connect sometime this weekend, as I have heard good things about this breeder thru others as well. :-) Did you go to MI to visit the breeder?
Dana - Oh gosh, I had better start with just one! If I don't put limits on myself, I could end up with a full house! So...you have 2 GDs now, but you are thinking of getting LDs next? Is that b/c you want to try something different or another reason?
Forgive me if this sounds ignorant...but if you brush a doodle every day (or every other day), will this prevent matting?
Maybe.
Not just brushing. You need to use a comb and make sure you get down to the skin through the coat. It depends on the type coat your Doodle has. If thick, wooly and wirey then for sure you will need to get in there with a comb. With the thick coat it is easy for the brush to just skim across the coat and you don't realize you haven't penetrated to the skin. Gracie has a soft coat and not really dense so I only use a comb on her. I use one with rotating teeth which is more forgiving. Join the Grooming Group because there are tons of discussions on coat types, combs, brushes and of course every one's favorite Les Pooches brush which is very pricey.

I am new to this site and we are looking for doodle puppies.  I saw someone mentioned a breeder in Michigan, which is where we are located.  I don't think you can say the breeder on a post, but can you private message me the breeder name?  Also...not sure how to PM on here!  lol

I Pm'd you with my breeders name. I think it's on my page too. You will need to accept e as a friend to get the message tho. Good luck. Let me know if you use this breeder?
Wow, that was long, sorry, I walked away and came back and kept ranting.   :)

Sunny is a multi-generation labradoodle, but due to her coat and coloring, everyone assumes she's a goldendoodle! (Or wheaton terrier... but she's obviously not that).

You should definitely look at both. Just make sure the breeder/group you get the dog from is good and reputable.

Is Sunny soft? Does she shed? How much does she weigh?
