Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi All,
I know I'm in the doodle forum so the answers to this question may be a little biased!
But I want to know if any of you have had experiences with both Wheatens and Goldendoodles? Which do you prefer and what are the pros and cons to each?
I am currently looking at doodles from Timshell Farms in Arizona. The puppies are priced around $1900. Have any of you bought from Timshell? If so, how was your experinece?
I haven't been able to price a Wheaten yet but I'm assuming around $1000.
Honestly the price is not a huge deal to me, I just want a happy and healthy puppy that has an entirely healthy life.
Looking into Timshell Farms petite Goldendoodles; 25% Spaniel 25% Golden and 50% poodle. Is this a common mix?
Any and all help is appreciated! Looking to get a puppy in the December timeframe in case any of you were wondering!

As far as temperment and the training, I think it will be a really good idea to check the both parent's temperment, and tempermant of the pup when you get ready to pick one. I am not an expert or anything, but even with the breed that is generally recognized to have good temperment, they are just like people, they have variety of personality and temperment. Please do not assume that ALL doodles have wonderful and friendly personality and easy to train. ( I think that goes for any breed ). I have a F1b Labraddodle who is very smart and have numerous Rally title, but cannot deal with new situations, not good with other dogs, new people, can look aggressive due to her reactiveness. Dogs like her needs a lot of undersatnding and patience, and may ends up in the shelter if the owner is not prepared or willing. DK helped me a lot in understanding her and working with her....
Good luck in choosing your puppy.. it is so exciting.
Aaron, there are serious health issues in all breeds. You would be hard-pressed to find a breed with more helath issues than Golden Retrievers, and Poodles have more than their share, too. Mixing the breeds does not give you a healthier dog, as many of the same genetic diseases run in both Goldens and Poodles. Many, many doodle owners here have dogs with serious health issues, and there are even quite a few whose doodles have died from them. So if part of your reason for wanting a doodle is that you have heard that mixed breed dogs are healthier than purebreds, I'm sorry to say that just isn't true.

it's fairly easy to find mini F1B goldendoodles, but again, remember that the breeder's size estimates are just that, estimates. If size is very important to you, it would be a good idea to go with a very experienced breeder who has had previous litters with the breeding pair.

I grew up with terriers and although I *think*, generally speaking, the wheaten breed is a little different, terriers do have a stubborn (sometimes nasty) streak in them. I loved my terriers but as dh says "we will never have one in our family". He's being a little harsh. But the goldendoodle breed is very different personality-wise - again, generally speaking and can vary due to being mixed breed of course.
I agree what everyone else says about good breeders, shedding, etc.....
We have a group " Owner Recommended Breeder". There may be a breeder in Arizona listed there. Also there are lots of group by state, so if you search the group, there may be a group for people in Arizona, who may have good suggestions for you.
Have you considered a Portuguese Water Dog? Just throwing it out there but I have heard they can be a bit hard to train. Very active and can be hyper. Again, it all comes down to the breeder and the parents of the puppy. I'm not sure what medical problems they have but they sure are cute and sweet dogs!! At least the five or six I have met!
Why are these dogs so high priced??????????????????????? I have three Goldendoodles and never paid that much for them. They came from good breeders also.
