Today we had to be gone from home for several hours and decided for it to be the first time we left Meg out of her crate while we were gone.  We gate the top of the stairs at night and let her have the run of upstairs (bathroom door closed...don't like her drinking from toilet...keep a cleaning agent in it), she always does well up there.  We gave her a peanut butter bone so we could slip out the door but that didn't fool her for one second.  She watched us leave and when we came home nearly four hours later she was watching in the window and wiggling all around in circles as we came in the door.  We made a huge production of her being a good girl and glad to see her.  I am so pleased that she did well, no chewing and nothing knocked down or torn up.  Pretty good for my 11 month old girl.

Vey good girl. Now she feels secure and knows that you will always come back to her.

Good girl Meg! It is always a bit of a worry the first time you leave them with free reign.

GO MEG!

Yaaa Meg!    Those welcome home greetings are so sweet!    Glad she was such a good girl...and so young!

Congratulations!

Excellent Meg! What a good girl.
What a "GREAT" Feeling!!!! Yah for Meg!!!!

Proud of Meg and of you!

Congratulations, Meg!

That's really nice. Way to go Meg! We had one attempt at leaving Auggie out of his crate and just gated in the kitchen when he was 7 months old, while attending a Christmas party. During the party, I kept watching our web cam on my phone to see Auggie snooping around the kitchen, surfing the counters, pulling the chair seat covers, etc... Needless to say, we cut the party short and came home to a ripped up magazine that was left on the kitchen table and a planter with spilled dirt that was originally sitting on a half wall separating the kitchen and a living room. And we were gone for maybe an hour and half...

Auggie is over 10 months old now and I've just now started leaving him out of the crate on my brief trips to the store. So far so good, but I doubt he would last 4 hours like your Meg. What a good girl! We never had any problems with Monty, even as a puppy. In fact, it was boring to spy on him through the web cam since he just slept.

Good girl Meg.  Can I offer one suggestion?  I would not make a big deal and praise her up when you get home.  Always leave and arrive home with no fanfare, even ignoring her for the first few minutes.  I know it is hard to do, but you want her to think people come and go and it is no big deal.  When you praise her, she does not realize you are doing so because she did not get into trouble anyway.

Judy, that is awesome!   Good job Meg!  We are just now leaving Libby out of her crate when we go out.  She is two and we have only done it a few times. My biggest worry she will get hurt or get into something, so we are taking it slowly.  Thankfully she has pretty much stop chewing furniture and anything else she can get her hands on, but since we have crated her for so long I worry that she won't know what to do and maybe do the wrong thing:)  I worry about everything:(
