Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
That's right folks, Amish Puppies are for sale at bargain prices. I live just one county down the road from 1,000 and 1,000 of Doodle Puppies! If I drive an hour south, I can get you a doodle for a lot less money!
Who could resist buying a puppy from good, God-Fearing Christians?
It's time once again to remind our newest members and those who are looking to get a beautiful puppy not to support the Amish by purchasing a puppy. While not to harp on this subject we should bring it up once a year. You know, kind of like that mandatory safety meeting we all have to attend at work each year :) Ugh. But it is important as a group to know all of this information. It is important to be a member of this site, know this information, have it posted around here somewhere, and then pass the word. It should come up more often. Too many new members, too many new puppies being bred, too many sick, too many sick puppies, too many looking for the $600 not the $2600 dog, too many sick puppies around here. We are seeing it everyday here. It is time to review.
The Amish make great barns, furniture, and quilts. Not puppies.
Folks, I do not want to know where your puppy is from. I had an Amish Puppy Myself. I just want to remind others to spread the word and educate new members.
The following is really benign. If you want to research more yourself, have at it. There is plenty on the internet.
UPDATE: I DELETED THE LONG DISCUSSION. WHO NEEDS MY EMOTION. I THOUGHT FACTS WOULD BE BEST.
HERE IS A SEGMENT BY NIGHTLINE. SOMEONE MORE REPUTABLE. AN EASY WATCH AND INFORMATIVE.
IT IS HARD ENOUGH AROUND HERE, WITHOUT ADDING RELIGION AND CULTURES.
SO LETS GO EASY ON EACH OTHER.
FEEL FREE TO DELETE YOUR COMMENTS... OR WHATEVER. REMEMBER THIS IS TO GET THE WORD OUT THERE.
NEED MORE CREDIBLE INFORMATION:

And a discussion with a news article about the bus of the Manitoba kennel in question: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/video-of-dave-nikkels
now now. Let's not blame all people from QC. But the laws are lax, although they were recently updated after last year's seizure. They estimate that there are around 500 or 600 puppy mills in QC. It's absurd to think of the numbers. I can't even fathom how the puplation supports that number, unless they are feeding puppies to the US market.
We have our own, thousands of them. More than 1000 puppy mills in the Puppy Mill Capitol of the world, Missouri, alone.
Truly I think Joanne really meant to target the Amish puppy mill owners and not the entire people. I can vouch for the fact that she has a good heart and tends to give people the benefit of the doubt. I am sure there are many wonderful people who are Amish and Mennonite and just about anything else. Some bad guys too though.
I probably should close this discussion now. All I wanted was to OPEN EYES around the DK area. I want the word PASSED. I want all new members supported, educated.
I do not want new members to get sick PUPPIES. Now remember, I myself had an AMISH PUPPY. The key word in that last sentence HAD.
I am not condemning the AMISH. They have a different way of life, a different way of doing things—IT IS A CULTURE and I recognize this as the truth, not condemnation. They may live however they wish, however their beliefs about Puppies and our beliefs about puppies are different and I do not think, we as a group, support the same values.
No condemnation about religion. But I truly believed once, that this was not possible. But it is.
I will post this again. It needs to be out and about on DK.
We are OBLIGATED. How can we talk about Parvo, and Giardia, but totally skirt around what we really think?
We can argue the facts until the barn doors close.
---------Bottom Line----No More Sick Puppies-------
I would like everyone here to look at this website. I know someone who has a very sick puppy that was purchased from this "breeder": http://www.albarkkennels.com/about.php
Before you found DK, wouldn't you have thought this was a good place to get a puppy?
That's why we have to keep getting the word out.
I am very sorry to hear about Cassie.
I am so sorry for your loss, Sue. Jack was purchased in a pet store and abandoned in a shelter when he was 14 months old. I know he was from a puppy mill, but don't know where or which one it was. Doesn't matter. He has had serious health issues since he was 18 months old; the costs of caring for him will top 5 figures this year. I am grateful that he is mine, for the same reason you were grateful that you were the one who found Cassie; I am committed to doing everything that can be done for him for as long as I am lucky enough to have him.
Typing from my phone so bear with me....
I've had several emails from members wanting this discussion re-opened. Hey, that's a good thing!
My hopes, again remember I'm the rose- colored glass girl, are that we can also take this in another direction.
What can we do, as a group to get the word out?
Place a little "button" on our page. You've seen those decorative and informative pretty little info thingies....
I think we can get a suttle message out without blasting away? Maybe. I love the cuteness of this place. The pretty pictures. The friendship, the laughter..... But maybe a ribbon with paw prints displayed to those dogs who will never make it here to the slideshow. I'll be glad to draft up the graphics...
I never knew until I came here and I am surrounded by Amish Tourism's positive message.
I'm guillible.
What do you think of my suggestion? We should never turn this site into a Animal Rights Site, but a few informative messages- sure would be nice to get out. Honestly, I had it blasted to my face so I was hoping a softer approach.
Thanks for posting this Joanne. People need to hear this all the time, and tell others. Even if it is hard/unpleasant for them to think about, everyone needs to know. I bought Darwin from a BYB, and I would never do something like that again. Does that mean I don't love Darwin? NO, it just means that I know more than I did then and I won't repeat my past mistakes. It's not about the dogs being lesser or not worth love, it's about not supporting evil greedy people!
