Doodles (Dude) is just coming up a year, I groom him a couple of times a week, but cant seem to keep his coat round his collar and behind his ear from matting. Any suggestions for a remedy now and prevention in the future? Thanks Kate
Definitely join the grooming group. Matting is a very common doodle trait and there is lots and lots of information in that group. I favor diligent brush/combing and Cowboy magic for getting out mats. All I have to say is if you got to a year before mats you are really lucky - my doodle began matting at 6 months! He is almost 2 now and mats can be brushed out as long as we brush him thoroughly 2 - 3 times per week.
I ordered mine off of Amazon, but I think you can get it at stores that sell horse supplies as well. I live in a small town and did not have access to anything. Its really cheap stuff. About $8 at Amazon.com. It is a conditioning treatment that is originally used on horse manes and tails.
It's primarily a horse grooming product and you can usually find it at stores that carry products for horses. There is a web site also that can help you find local retailers or you can order it online.
