I am sure others will chime in. It has taken me a WEEK ( yes I started last Sunday) and I just did the last cut tonight. I am not one to give grooming advice. But my dog hates grooming. He must have been a Flat Coated Retriever in his last life.
You may want to join the group GROOMING here on DK.
There is a diagram and pictures in that group you can take with you to give to the groomer as to what you wish your dog might look like after a good grooming.
You might also want to join a group for your area, and see if people near you have groomer recommendations.
I gave the grooming diagram posted in the Grooming group to our groomer, and I think it has been very helpful. Each time, I also remind her of the basic instructions:
Even when these instructions are followed, Cosmo still comes out looking a bit poodley because they blow him dry. He has that fluffed, blown-out look. We just get him a little wet, and his coat gets back to normal!
I think you need to continue to look for a groomer, but keep in mind that, depending upon your dog's coat, they might come out overly poofy to start with. If that is all that is wrong, a bit of wetting with a squirt bottle and 'scrunching' with your hand, will set things to rights.
If your groomer shaves the face, between the eyes, or paws, for example, after you have said specifically NO, then I would definitely look for a new groomer because this one doesn't care what you want. If they don't blend the poofer into the ears, I would talk to them specifically about it and see if they can do better.
Can you post some pictures of your dood, so we can see what type of coat, etc?
I had the same problem with Tara and her groomer and consequently ended up grooming her myself. My ex-groomer thought the look I like is "messy". LOL! If you don't want to home groom than I would recommend finding photos of the cut you want Cooper to have and showing them to the groomer. If you browse through DK you should be able to find some doodles with the cut you want. And please join the Grooming Group as there is so much good information there whether you use a groomer or do it yourself! Good luck!
Same here-we try to most at home by ourselves.
