Harness to discourage pulling!

Marley is getting quite large at 60+lbs now. He likes walks but pulls on his lead quite a bit. We got him a padded harness at first and then tried this harness from Tractor Supply.

He continues to pull making the walk not so pleasant for either of us. I looked at the Gentle Leader but it looks too much like a muzzle.  Any harness recommendations are welcome.

I'm really surprised the Easy Walk harness didn't work for you. It worked like magic for me, and my guy was 85 lbs and pulled like a locomotive before I tried it. Are you sure you have adjusted it correctly? When the harness is on correctly, the martingale attachment at the front is designed to slide so that when the dog pulls, he ends up turned around facing you, and that makes it pretty hard for him to get anywhere, lol.

I had tried several brands and none would work. Guinness and Honey are bad at pulling. I then found the Freedom Harness and tried one. I immediately bought two more. There is a ring on the chest portion that will turn the dog if they pull. I can walk all four at once without a problem. They are, also, not easy to slip out of. Gentle Leader brand has the same type that has the ring on the chest. It works great for my two.

That's the Easy Walk. It worked great for us, too, but apparently not for Marley.

I would give the gentle leader a shot. Just because it looks like a muzzle doesn't mean it is! Yeti doesn't particularly care for the GL but he is a whole new dog when we have it on. He doesn't pull at all when he wears it. People all the time mistake it for a muzzle so we just correct them.

No recommendations. We use a G.L. on Haley but he still manages to pull. Will be looking into a prong collar as Haley is very strong and I am beginning to have trouble holding the leash when he wants to go see something.

We use prongs on Charlie and Clancy not because they pullmso much, but because they sometimes panic. When that happens, they pull and jerk and if on a flat collar, they will pull their heads right out. We use prongs attached to a cloth martingale collar made by Lola Limited.

I didn't get the easy walk to work for Picco either.  I tried a few no-pull harnesses and none worked.  What I got to work the best is the Thunderleash which wraps loosely around the body then tightens up when he pulls which makes Picco just stop walking altogether.  He doesn't pull much unless another dog is around.

While we're on this topic, I think it's worthwhile to mention that any type of device to stop pulling on leash (harness, prong collars, whatever) are really just stop-gap measures, tools meant to be used in the interim while we are working to correct pulling by implementing a good training program. Your goal should always be to eventually have a dog who walks nicely on a loose leash with just a plain old collar, as they must do to get their CGCs. That goal was what finally made me stop using the harness and get to work. :)

That would be the goal if I had 20 years to get there! My Rio is certified by Therapy Dog International and in controlled situations, he is fine. But when out on the road near the woods, forget it! That is when I use the Gentle leader halter-type. Otherwise, we could never leave the yard! The woods is too exciting!

I don't think it would take 20 years, lol, but it does take commitment, consistency, and constant effort.
All I know is that is if I could do it with 85 lb Jack and Jane could do it with 70 lb Murphy, both of whom are extremely reactive on leash, to the point of going air-borne ballastic, lol, it can be done with any dog.
