I wouldnt recommend bathing your dog every week, it will strip the fur of its natural oils and you will end up with a dog with dry itchy skin. every 4-6 weeks is the most frequent id do it, though cooper goes much longer than that!!!!!!!
Definitely a problem with dogs that share your home (and bed) with you. My dogs get "leg washes" very frequently and full baths as needed. We have a dog bathing area in our laundry room off the garage with heated water and a sprayer. Weekly is probably too frequent for baths, but I can sure understand why someone would want to have a clean dog!
Kaytlin, Libby goes to the groomer every three weeks. Do you feel that is too often? It does seem like her fur is dryer lately, but I have not noticed her scratching at herself at all.
We want him to be used to baths so I work with him on bathing weekly for now, plus we have a very bad tick problem in our area and Lyme disease all around us. I've heard of many family pets and people who have the disease and it is awful especially for the dogs. We get them all their vaccinations, but they don't like to give the Lyme Vaccine to puppies too early. We've also used Front line, etc. and they don't seem to work as well. I do appreciate your comments though so I can look out for dryness which I hadn't thought of. This shampoo is very gentle, natural, and has oils in it. So far his coat has gotten nicer, whether it is from the shampoo or the good food he gets I am not sure. We are going to try the spray though so that I don't have to bathe as frequently as once a week. It does get tiresome. My other dog has allergies to dander, dust mites, and barn stuff, so she needs a bath frequently it helps her not to itch and bite her feet. I am hoping to put in a bathing area for the dogs while we are remodeling so it is easier to give baths to the bigger dogs.
Kelly there are other shampoos and conditioners in this line of product with oatmeal that should work just as well:Natural Flea & Tick Shampoo with Oatmeal for Dogs contains natural botanical ingredients that work synergistically with one another to provide effective and natural flea protection. Natural Flea & Tick Shampoo with Oatmeal for Dogs has been proven to provide a residual effect for up to 7 days and is also effective on black flies and mosquitoes. Another added benefit is oatmeal proteins which moisturize, nourish and revitalize dry coats as well as relieves and prevents itching.
We have only used this one below so far, the smell is wonderful, we love it. Even after a week he still smells good and is repelling ticks:
Stephanie - Thanks for sharing that. When I bathe my guys, I will certainly consider that.
