He's here! Bailey has finally arrived!

Well, the long wait is over. We went to pick our boy Bailey up yesterday. We left at 9:15 am and got to the breeders house just after 4pm. (we took a few stops for the kids, lunch, etc)

The breeders are really nice. We got to meet Bailey, his mom Chloe and his dad Brody. Brody is a big boy and by the looks of Bailey's paws, he's going to be a big boy too. We got to stay the night at their bed and breakfast and were treated to a wonderful waffle breakfast before embarking on the long drive home. Bailey did really well. He only had one little vomit episode, but I was ready with the bucket and we caught it all. Considering the length of the drive, the new circumstances, and that this was his first time in a vehicle, I think he did amazingly well.

I took him to the vet when we got home. The vet says he's a good healthy boy. He's currently weighing in at 12 lbs. The breeder figures he's going to be 85lbs or more full grown.

Right now he's lying at my feet taking a snooze. Playing and traveling are a lot of work you know!

He's been a really good pup so far. We've been lucky and are having really good weather, so are making lots of trips outside to establish good bathroom routines. So far so good. (knock on wood) Yes to the paws. I can only imagine him trying to climb into my lap when he's fully grown. Hmmm, don't think that's going to work so well!

Congrats! He is such a beautiful boy!  Seeing all the pictures makes me more antsy to get my boy on Sunday! Seeing your Bailey at 8weeks at 12lbs makes me see about how big my Teddy at 16 weeks is at 12lbs or so! Congrats again and enjoy your baby!

I had Christmas eve type excitement, excited because we had a long trip to go get him and a bit nervou about how he would do on his trip. I made sure we had lots of wet wipes, dish towels, and a barf bucket just in case. The barf bucked was used one time, but other than that he was fabulous for over 7 hours of driving and stops. Is this your first dog?

I agree. I still remember the sleepless nights when Kirby was a puppy and had my first one with Bailey last night. He did ok actually. We got up 4 times to do outside breaks. 2 of the times he actually had to go! (good boy!) The other two times I think he was just lonely but went right back to bed after a quick cuddle and some shhhh'ing. I just keep reminding myself how strange it must be from him, away from his mom, siblings and environment. He's never been in a kennel before either, so that is another new thing. Today we put him in his kennel while we ate breakfast because he thought he would skulk around the table, but I won't have any of that. No people food allowed mister. (unless he finds the stuff that the kids drop before I do, but I definitely don't encourage that and am on the lookout!) He cried and cried, so I brought him closer to the table and he seemed ok with that. I told the kids that I would move him away after today. My poor son thought I was giving him away and got so upset! I had to explain that I meant I would be moving him a bit closer to where I want him to be each day, not moving him to a new home! Exciting times!
